When the Maverick was introduced in April 1969 , there was a Semi-automatic transmission option with (170 CID only). Does any one know how this transmission worked? I don't think I have ever seen one. The standard transmission was a fully synchronized 3 speed manual. There was also the (select shift) automatic transmission. All transmissions were column shifter only! No floor shifters or bucket seats. There are some questions in this sales book. I liked this one: Why do you call it a Maverick? Because it is unlike any other car... home-grown or imported. A maverick is different. It breaks the rules. And Ford's Maverick breaks the rules in your favor. It gives you small car economy and still keeps American driving needs in mind. Like Mustang and Thunderbird, its a car you'd expect only form a maverick like Ford.
I think what they meant was that you could put the car in 1st and then shift to 2nd and then to drive(3rd) gear. Don't quote me though
