    Hi all,
I just put an electric fan on my car (16", supposedly 3,000 cfm open flow). Just isn't cooling my car like the stock fan did. I have it set up as a puller, and the temps run about 20 deg. higher than normal (and it's cold here, so i know it's going to be a problem come summer time). I am running it across a stock 3 core radiator with no a/c. What are my options? Will buying another fan to put on the front as a "pusher" solve my problems?

What size radiator was it designed to fit, it may just be pulling through just one section of the radiator and not pulling through the whole surface area of the radiator. I would be better to see a pic of it to give us a better idea on what may be the problem.

One more question is it running 20 degrees warmer only when it is sitting still or is that at highway speed when air flow is natural anyway it may be something else. Just a thought.

Whoops! I had the power hooked up backwards, and it was pushing in stead of pulling!
They've actually got some 16" fans that will do 3200 cfm. Mine's rated at 3,000, that is, until you put it on a radiator. I got mine off ebay for $45.
This fan fits the radiator beautifully though.
Sorry to waste everyone's time, i feel like an idiot...

CaCollo; I put a 16" fan on my car, and it overheated, just like yours. I put the stock fan and a shroud back on, with a 160degree stat, and it runs cool, about 170degrees, with the A/C on, in slow traffic. Electric fan just can't cut it. I have one for sale if someone wants it.

Johnson; I will let it go for $50 + shipping. It has the thermostat kit and relay, and works very well.

Earl if that fan is a 3000 cfm fan the problem may have been the lack of a shroud...the fan needs to pull the air from the entire radiator ...not just the 16" diameter of surface area. It also has to be airtight from the radiator to the fan.
If its a 3000 cfm fan and you still want to get rid of it I'll take it...pm me

I have a 16" electric rated at 2900 cfm, no cooling problems. According to the directions that came with it the blades need to be no further than 1/2" from the radiator if you're not using a shroud. If you have a shroud the blades shoould be half in and half out .

Now that i got my fan blowing the correct direction, it's actually running cooler than the stock fan did! Stays at about 185 w/ a 180 thermostat.

Rick; I think it is about 2000cfm or so. I don't have the info on it any more. I only used the shroud that came with it, and it did not cover the entire rad. Let me know if you want it.

What is the min CFM for an electric fan if you have air conditioning. Are there any other factors to consider when looking for an E. fan.

Not that i'm plugging for the guy or anything, but:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...&category=33600&sspagename=STRK:MEBWN:IT&rd=1
This is the fan i got. It runs really cool and the installation couldn't have been any easier--the mounts that it came with came out to exactly 21"...the correct width for a maverick radiator. All i had to do was drill four holes on the same area where the stock shroud mounts. Works great! He said he'll be posting more later.

It's pretty deep, i would say that i have about 1.5-2" between the furthest back part of the fan, and the shaft of the water pump.
