Hey all, the 27-30 of November is the yearly daytona Turkey Rod Run. It is held at the speedway and is usually very large. Fred Mccutcheon, Hottie, and I are planning on attending. Our cars aren't up to show quality yet but fred may bring the falcon and mine is al least driveable. there is usually aver 3000 show cars and 1/2 the centerfield is set up as a swap meet. maverick/ comet parts are hard to find but there are usually some to be had. If anyone else is coming give me a shout vie P.M. and we will try to meet up with you. I will only be there on the 29th. (saturday) I can't spend to much money if i ever plan on getting this engine swap done. hahaha the web page is www.turkeyrun.com for more info
If you have never been you have no idea what you are missing. The swap meet can take nearly 2 full days if you do it right. Word of caution, get a room now if you plan to stay over in the daytona area. dont forge the deltonal area, not the beach but close and normally more reasonable rates. yep looks like it is gonna be the falcon and maybe mommas truck
Lil and I are planning on being there Friday and most of Saturday. If you have a hotel room lined up, we will be looking for a room for Friday night. We can carry on after they close the speedway ... go down and take in the cruise on A1A. PM me please ... The Comet has no interior right now. I am halfway through doing floorpans, so it will have to stay home. I will be carrying a shopping list that keeps growing along with some birthday money to spend ... Another Florida show to keep in mind is Zephyrhills (close to Tampa).http://www.zephyrhillsauction.com/ That runs 11/13 through 11/16, and we will be there Saturday 11/15. Probably 20% as many swap meet vendors, but there are also vintage dirt track races and auction activity all weekend. Some great cars pass through there. A lot of the vendors also have some really cool non-automotive antique stuff too, and Lil especially likes that. Bring your wives.
Both events are good ones. I have attended both many times and enjoyed them both for different reasons. The Zephyrhills show has the auction and vintage racing. The Daytona show has the huge swap meet(mostly GM stuff) and both feature classic cars. The Daytona show is by far the largest in the entire South, usually with between 5000-6000 cars. Most hotels require a 3 day stay. They also usually charge almost twice the going rate. If you are fortunate enough to find one with a vacancy, grab it. Of course, this year may be different with the economy the way it is today. When I was in Old Town last week, the motels had many, many vacancies and attendance of the tourists was WAY down. The attendance at both shows may also be down this year, even with the dropping gas prices. I usually attend the Daytona show on Friday. I have a parking space reserved with the Cougar club. However, it looks like I may have to work this year and may not be able to attend. I will know more shortly. Hope all have a great time! Jim
the turkey run was this weekend. you couldn't ask for better weather. it was beautiful. we saw 3 mavs and 2 comets this year. Fred McCutchen , hottie 2 and I met up and spent the day wandering the swap meet. not alot of mav parts to be had but i managed to find some intesting stuff.here are some outstanding cars we saw. the comet was near perfect and his asking price reflected it-$14,500. it was a very low milage car but i don't think he will reach his asking price. overall we had a great time. we stayed for the night events but were disappointed that they had to cancel the flame throwing contest due to new insurance regulations. boo hisss
Ditto what jason said. Even though on Sunday most of the vendors in the meet had shut down and put up and were leaving by 11 am. Still was a great weekend. Any time you can spend a weekend with family and friends it's a great time!!
