okay, so, all you guys/gals don't like big bumpers and or/4-doors, change your cars to small bumpers...as much as we all respect the breed, i'd think you'd like to keep the history...instead, much of you are going small bumper conversiion. Sad. The history is lost...and you disrespect the big bumper and/or 4-door. History needs to be kept. Be Who You Are! If you want the small bumper, buy that car, don't do a Frankenstein.. Be Who You Are!

well as much as i agree wit you on this topic..... i know from experence some models of mavs and comets are hard to find in decent condition because of rust or other problems. that leaves you to work with what you have.

What is the history behind big bumpers that makes them so significant? They came about by government mandate, not because Ford wanted them. People should do with their cars, what ever makes them happy.

It's ABOUT history, Jamie! We need to salvage the history of all Mavericks/Comets.

Most stock Mavericks are very boring. One of the main reasons they never got the attention that Mustangs got. They got a reputation as grandmas car, or grocery-getter. Most of us have done modifications to our car that fit our personality and as long as the owner is happy, then it shouldn't matter. Even the Mustang crowd has changed a lot the last few years. Restomods used to be a no-no and killed the value of a car. Now, lots of restomods are bringing higher prices than totally stock cars. :)

    Agreed. :thumbs2:

these are not Boss 429 cars, and that's one of the reasons that alot of us have them. they're fairly inexpensive to build and dont hold "alot" of value so it doesnt bother any of us to modify them. as a matter of fact, almost all of these cars gain value from modification. we build our cars as we see fit. we dont tell everyone to keep their big bumpers on their because it's "correct" for them... we cheer them on no matter what they decide to do to their car. i wouldnt want someone telling me how to build my car, would you?

Eh, they're just cars. I love my Maverick. But if it still had a fully "preserved" stock 6cyl engine, 4 lugs, 4 drums, manual brakes and steering with stock tires and suspension, I would love it less. My car is a driver, modified for driving on today's roads in today's traffic and for driving behind cars with today's stopping ability. It has better, wider tires, disc brakes, upgraded suspension and more modern safety equipment such as newer type seat belts. It has better seats, better windshield wipers, and it just might end up with cruise control shortly. I'll be putting in power locks with keyless entry and rear disc brakes in the next couple of weeks. It also has a modern stereo, too many electrical upgrades to list, and a much hotter engine.

So, I have utterly raped this car's "history" but I have made it something better than it was. My car's not a museum piece and I don't want a car that is. This is a car that I can drive every day in 2008. I can stop, turn and accelerate with anything that the other idiots out there are driving, I'm not afraid to put my wife and child in it, and I can enjoy this car in comfort and relative safety. It's also reliable enough to go anywhere I want without a second thought.

In stock form I could not drive this car every day. I'd take it out in nice weather on Sundays, and I would drive it like an 80 year old woman. I'd stop slow, accelerate slow, turn wide and be a danger to myself and others around me. I would not enjoy it, and people wouldn't get to see it much either. I'd mostly be bored with it except during those white-knuckled close calls with my weak brakes and bicycle tires trying to avoid somebody in a Honda Accord with ABS who missed his turn. Sooner or later I would put it into a ditch, a pole, or another car. Hopefully nobody would die, but the car would, and where's the history then? At least the way my car is now, people see it all the time and it will be here to enjoy a lot longer.

Some great lookin' factory wheels you got on yours too, must be rare. I'd probably try to keep a car like that all original too.

My 69.5 started out being that stock 6cyl engine, 4 lugs, 4 drums, manual brakes and steering with stock tires and suspension. It sat in a yard with flat tires and over run with mice. The green glow of moss was covering the body panels and the interior smelled really bad. But it was FREE! (y)

I wasn't looking specifically for a Maverick. Just any small light Ford 2 door body to put my 351C into so I knew, from the start, that it wasn't going to be kept stock. The 4 speed, front discs and the 9 inch disc rear came next. Now today there isn't one thing that has been left stock but I do enjoy working on it and coming up with new things that I want to do to it.:bananaman

I think if I was looking for a Maverick and found one that was garage kept and drove anywhere, anytime, I might have thought differently. :)

these pictures just go to show you that these cars can look good both ways. but as the old ones say, "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder". you cant change the way a person looks at something, so others may think something looks good when others dont think so. that goes back to opinions, which everyone has one and is entitled to one :thumbs2: :Handshake
