$250 for 170 '72 (still runs like a champ), $400 for '75 GT (gone on to greener pastures...), $500 for flooded out 71' and '75 both 250s and all 2drs, dad ticked off because he can't fit the boat in the backyard because of the maverick museum- priceless.

$700 for the six, $850 for the V-8

Oy... I forgot to update my collection in this thread... just paid $850 for a brown 72 2 door with a V-8, power steering, and rear defroster.

After parking it in the front yard (and washing it inside and out) my girlfriend still hated it so I paid $300 for a canopy and tarps to build a "portable" workshop so she doesn't have to look at it. At least now I can work on it this winter... someplace relatively dry.

    hey 75 vomet.

I'm in iraq right now and won't have my hands on her until around march of next year. (hopefully) I did snap a few pics of her before i left. It is paired with the computer controlled AOD transmission that came with the motor. I literally drug her into the driveway the day before I flew back out. One in a million chance.

anyway, here a pic of the installed engine. Note the left tower brace was notched to make room for the intake tube. I was looking into a s.c. 3.8 from a supercoupe, but with that big alum. tube going down the right side it would appear impossible. If I was going to go with a M2 front end maybe, but that's way way down the road.

when I get back and pull the engine (head gasket...typically) I will get all sorts of photos of the mounts, oil pan, and any other requests someone might have.

Here's the threat where I introduce her to the group once i brought her home.

for the mav I have right now I paid $4500. It's a 1971 200ci but in really nice condition.

the first maverick I had was a 1973 which I paid $2000 for and it had zero rust believe it or not.

the 3rd maverick I got for $1200 and it was a 1971 but that had too much rust.

    I love my mavs!

Pretty cool, Bradley! How are those 280ZX wheels fitting? I always kinda wondered if the 4-lug Mavs could wear Z-car shoes. Lots of very nice wheels to choose from if so...

Paid $3600 for mine, not bad since it has a cage, is tubbed, 9", new slicks, and all sorts of other performance goodies, it is only a rolling chassis though.

My first 71 comet gt (green) was $600. Next was a 71 gt (white) $1000, next 2 were winter cars ( hugger orange?) $800 for both. My last, a 72 comet(buckskin, avatar) was $2000. I found it at a swap meet after I picked up a gas cap. It was on a flyer under the cap.

My Dad paid $500 for my Sprint in '94. He and I changed the u-joints and master cylinder and the car ran great. I drove it all through high school and a little while afterwards until I got my '90 GT. I still have the Sprint, too.

    A few Mavericks.

I payed $400 for my '72 Grabber & drove it home in '97. I traded out a timing chain job & a headgasket on an '85 Cougar for my '70 maverick & drove it home (maybe $500 worth)in '99. I paid $700 for my '72 Maverick & drove it home in 2001. I think I paid around $200 for a '77 4-dr parts car in 2002. I sold the '72 Grabber body for $1000 in 2007. I sold the '70 Maverick for $750 in 2002. I sold the remains of the '77 parts car for $100 in 2007. My current Maverick is for sale & I'm hoping to get at least $10k for it. Sounds like alot, unless you're the one who invested $15-20k in it.

Hey Whisky, way to go! Glad you found the V-8 you were looking for. Let me know how it goes. But I would forget about it till spring with this cold weather. No mind the girlfriend. Your baby is a classic. Good catch. If the girl doesn't like the car throw her out.

without Comet now just keeping in touch
Hmm I am not sure how I missed this thread way back in '06 ( at least I didn't see my reply but ..

In Summer 1997 or 98 I think it was I saw an add in the Des Moines register 1974 Mercury Comet 2 door 71k orginal miles stored 10 years.

I went and looked and bought it for $750, had my kids with with me loaded them in the Comet drove it home then we got a ride back to my everyday car ( a 96 Cavalier)

It had several wierd things wrong with it, You had to put it in Neutral to start it or it wouldn't shift out of park once it was running? Also it would drive fine but had no lights no signals no blower nothing unless you pulled back slightly on the column shifter?

And as the owner told me it won't shift out of 2nd gear

So I really had no money to work on it so I drove it very little just in case the tranny was going out. about 2 years later I moved to my acreage and had a 30 mile interstate drive. low and behold it shifted to 3rd !! .. but I had to get it up to 65 mph to get it to shift? someone on this board suggested I look at the kick down linkage, turns out it was rusted into the kicked down position!! WD40 and viola it shifted great, though the tranny needed seals ( which I got done last year) Also got the electrical shortf ixed and that fixed the wierd shift out of park once running problem, anyway after 10 years of ownership and only about 5000 miles or less of actual mileage , I can drive her pretty much anywhere but she needs a rebuilt or replacement 6.
All total I have less that $1500 in her right now!
PS I have owned this car longer that any previous car I have ever had
