hey so is there an advantage to those tubular suspensions? I see them for mustangs and I personally like the looks of them. Are they there for looks or for performance? can I make them to work for the mav?
they are for performance. they are more ridged and provide beter handeling controle. if your looking for the best handeling possible these are a good way to go.
any way priceyer than stock. complete systems that include upper, and lower controle arms, strut rods, and coil over shocks start at over $1000. the ones for the mustang work on the mav. i belive you want the kit for 69 and up.
Classic Performance Pproducts has tubular Uppers for $309 instead of the $599 most everyone else seems to want. Yes, they will work on a Maverick. Just buy the 67 - 70 parts. http://www.classicperform.com/NewProducts/2006/NewFiles/NovaSubFrame.htm The Mustang Items are at the bottom of the page. Part number 6770TCA-UKS for silver 6770TCA-UKB for black Unless you are doing further performance suspension mods, I would just go with stock rebuild parts. These are interesting to me because you could trim out the spring perch bracket and use them for a less expensive coil over conversion. :evilsmile
whats the website link to where you found that kit? that requires removeing the strut rod brakets. that requires cuting and grinding. it looks like that plate can be bolted on but being a major suspension mount location i would recomend doing a few welds to ensure that it doesnt shift around
same website jayman gave: http://www.classicperform.com/NewPro...vaSubFrame.htm I don't know if the kit pictured is the right one but if you look at 6770TCA-ULK-B, it'll tell you it's for a mustang and it has I think the lower and upper arms.
ok looking at that site, i would say that is a decent way to upgrade the front suspension. my question to you is what do you want from your car? i know that you plan on using this for a daily driver. do you like to turn into corners faster than people normaly do? are you interested in racing it (auto cross, road racing, or drag race)? do you plan on just cruising the car?
I really like the looks of the tubular suspension. And yes, the cornering will definitely need to improve. I have my front & rear sway bars which will make a big difference. I don't think I'll do any racing but still would like to take it to the track eventually and see how she does.
Here is the Global West kit. Summit and Jegs sell them Global West For dramatic improvement in your classic Mustang's handling characteristics, move beyond the stock components to this negative roll system from Global West. The included template is for lowering the position of the new tubular control arms exactly 1 inch. It's the same trick used by Shelby on the GT350 Mustang, and it improves the tire-contact patch during cornering. The tubular upper-control arms feature billet cross-shafts and are far stronger and more resistant to flexing than the original-equipment, stamped-steel arms. These tubular control arms have corrected ball-joint angles to eliminate binding near the end of suspension travel. The available lower-control arms show the same stout construction as the uppers and also feature Del-a-lum bushings for minimal deflection. Upper tubular control arms have a limited life-time warranty for as long as you own your car, racing or not. Arms are pre-assembled and powdercoated gloss black. Alignment information is included. We found the negative roll kit for classic Fords for $599. Global West 655 S. Lincoln Ave. San Bernardino, CA 92408 (877) 470-2975 www.globalwest.net
The kits you see there fits a 65-70 mustang. It will NOT fit a Maverick. The upper control arms will work with our cars. If you had a wild hair, you could buy one of the 67-70 kits, cut a few inches out of the front center of the bracket, cut out the front strut rod frame member, weld in the modified bracket and a frame reinforcement cross member and take a chance that this would work. That assumes that the lower control arm mount bracket is the same position relative to the bottom of the frame. Anyone want ot be the guinea pig?
There are tubular upper and lower control arms from Total Control Products that fit Mavericks. I have them on my '72. At the time they didn't make the strut bars for our cars (so I used the factory ones), but they do now. None of the stuff is cheap, but it really makes a Maverick handle a lot better. http://www.totalcontrolproducts.com/
