my 351 had a c6 i believe and im using a c4 and im wondering if the flex plate isd compatible with the torqe converter on the tranny the tranny came out of a 5.0 mustang and the 351w is like a 84 model,if it doesnt fit what would i have to do .l
I'm not fully sure of all the issures, but I think you need to use the small 157 tooth wheel with your C4 as it should have the small bell housing to fit a Mav/Comet. Then there may be balance to consider.
measure across the mounting studs on the converter. if it's 10.5", you'll need a 157 tooth flexplate. If it's 11 7/16" you'll need a 164 tooth. Both are for a C4, and 28 oz balance. The 351w used the same balance from '69 on and did not change. One from a pre-'79 302 will fit with no mods. In mid-'79 the 302's balance changed (most don't know this) to 30 oz, and in '82, the 302's went to 50 oz. The 351's never changed from 28. Every early FOX 5.0 mustang ('79-'83) that I've seen used a 157 tooth and a "small" bellhousing.
thanks for the help guys ,thanks mavman i will check that out then i will holler at you if i have any ?'s.thanks again.
