I found a small bumper Maverick in the boneyard, and it still has a good front bumper on it. Itll need rechroming, but its nice and straight. Is it worth grabbing? Cant remember if the rear bumper is on it or not, seem to think it was gone. Anything else I should get? Im almost positive it was a grabber, but the hood is gone. Body is still in original yellow/orange paint with stripes, but light hit on RR and right floor pan cut out.
Goto: www.fordmaverick.com And look under the Mechanical tab, then click on "Exterior" and scroll down to "Convert Bg Bumpers to Small" and it should tell you everything you need to know.
yup, basicly grab everything associated with the bumpers, like: bumper bumper brackets front valence front bumper filler panel hood latch support and you'll have to notch a square in the front corner of your fenders the rear is a little easier, just grab: rear bumper bumper brackets (come off with bumper) rear valence quarter panel extensions
Thanks! I guess I should ask too, is it worth getting these to resell? I dont have a Maverick, but Im all for helping the next guy, since I know the small bumpers are less common and more desirable than the later cow catchers.
If it is a Grabber, you should snatch the rear spoiler, trunk lid, and quarter extension, too. Save the factory cups that the spoiler attaches to the trunk with. If it has bucket seats, get the seat tracks including all the hardware (bell-shaped front riser and larger rounded rear riser on the inboard tracks). If it has the key in the dash instead of in the steering column, that makes it an early car and a whole other list of things to grab. Is the car hit too bad to fix? Edit If it has sports mirrors, grab them too. Even if they have a problem, the bases are unique to Mavs/Comets, and other mirrors can be used with these bases.
Like I said, its in a junk yard, and by looking at it its been there a while. Mirrors are already cut off (ruined a set of PERFECT doors, no rust at all), hood is gone, and it must have been a true grabber because the spoiler and rear stuff was all gone. Seats are gone too, along with most of the passenger side floor. The front end is all there and complete, spindles, linkage, bumper, etc. Not sure about grill. I have the rest of the week off, so I may just have to go back and get all that stuff. If I go back, Ill get pictures of the car. Maybe someone here can use something.
I would have gotten the diff, but it had either 2.79 or 3.25 gear open, so no biggie there. Didnt feel like fighting with it for basically just a housing and axles, especially when I dont really have a need for it or space to put it. It was a little more picked over than I thought, but Im still surprised the bumpers were there and in good shape. Im more surprised that the steering linkage was there along with the spindles as thats usually the first to go, followed closely by the 5 lug diff. I didnt grab the spindles since I dont have a need for them right now, but mostly because I forgot a hammer to seperate everything. Oops. I have a feeling the car will be there for a while, so Im in no hurry. If you can see anything you want, I may be willing to go back for more.
Hello Decurion: Just a footnote about the rear end. I've found that "Rodders" are prone to install Maverick and Comet rear ends (the whole setup) into a street rod such as a 34 Ford Sedan , or Coupe , or other cars around that year. They fit perfectly without narrowing them so they are in demand. You could probably get $300.00 to $500.00 for them in good shape.. I recommend you take ALL of the rear end .. even the leaf springs and porpotioning valve which the prospective buyer may or may not wish to purchase also. I've sold two here in Florida over the past 5 years..and I don't advertise.. they call me . Hope this helps. Chip from CAMEO .
