On a 74 grabber is a power brake conversion a big problem? I've read something about changing the shock tower brace is that absolutly necessary or will the booster and m/c from a mustang II interchange? Does anyone make a kit for this or would it be a find a frankenstein job? What is the differance between a 74 and 75 disc/manual system?

    my thoughts

i havent done it, but i expect the shock tower brace will be a problem. i cant honestly say ive ever seen a V8 maverick that came with power disc brakes, but i presume it became available @ some point.
i do recall a freinds 77 6 banger having power disc brakes. Ford made a bizarre looking bend in the shock tower brace, to allow the vacuum booster/master cylinder to clear.
i would guess they probably did the same on V8 models, but i dont know. a V8 is a much different shape.

i can tell you that when the ford falcon crowd converts to power discs... they use granada parts with the exception of they like to use a geo master cylinder/booster. it saves a lot of space, and our small cars dont need a lot of power assist.

have you considered converting to disc brakes, but not adding power assist? it isnt really necessary, and i would suspect its the actual disc's itself, and not the booster/mc that would make for the most improvement

if you do the drum to disc conversion, you WON'T need to go with power brakes. done it on 2 mavs... manual disc/drum is great!

I converted my V8 302 Maverick to power brakes using granada parts. It was a tight fit but I did get it working.

THe BM1508 looks like a better fit.

where can i find that funky brace?

if i find a donor granada, i use its master cylinder/booster, right?
i suppose it might even be the same as the maverick piece. that brace is especially goofy looking on a V8, but if it serves the purpose, it must be God's will.

where can i find one? what should i expect to pay for one? are they uncommon?

Thomas, did you cut back the shock towers at all with that mustang II front end or did you just leave them as is since you were going with a 302 anyways and space wasn't too much of a problem?

I think he posted the wrong pic.. he removed his shock towers for the MII front-end.

You must get the power booster assembly/ shack tower brace from a Maverick for it to bolt in. The Granada one will not fit. The Granada spindles/calipers/rotating brake assembly are the same as the Mavs - that's it. You also need the pedal assembly and bracket from under the dash of the Maverick as they are different than manual brake cars.

P.S. The shock tower bracket is the same for both the sixes and V8.

Anyone go with power brakes and a manual tranny? If so, did you use the Maverick clutch and brake pedals or something else? Is it possible to adapt a Maverick pedal assembly to a power brake system?
