I would like to get to know my new friend the windsor What years of windsors came with 4bbls so on, whats the bores and strokes, the head cfms that kinda stuff. The main thing i was wonder about the 4bbl i bought 2 351w in the past week one came with a 4bbl intake but no carb what years could this be the other i pulled only had a 2bbl.
CID/ 4bbl You'll pick up about 4 CID, The 4bbl was mainly a 69 but 70 there was a few 4bbl engines. Caused lots of confusion with the 4bbl Cleveland that year. That's why they dropped the 351W 4bbl. If someone tells you they have 351W 4bbl heads, try not to laugh to much. The comp. difference came from different pistons. Just as in the 2/4bbl 302s. Shelby did make a little screamin 351W (69 GT350s) so there is some good (rare) stuff out there.
So is my windsor worth anything i got in trade for my 302. everything is original on it except for the carb and that i had it bored by 30
351W 4bbl manifolds are a somewhat rare item. The 351W is a good engine, actually the heads are the real issue. Whatis the casting number(actual year) of the heads. Exhaust ported out can make these very good heads.
years ago someone told me to put a 351w into my mustang instead of rebuilding my 289, because i would like the torque. they were right. mild cam, stock converter, headers, 3.25 gears, factory iron intake w/holley carb got me 14.00s. stout cam, 2800 stall, 4.30 gears w/28" slicks, offy 360 intake, 750 pumper ran 12.70s. never went over 6,000 rpm with flat top cast pistons in it. the torque makes it a much more streetable horsepower motor than 289/302. i like em.
Its made in 69 i had a shop run the numbers they said its from a mustang but they could tell me exactly what kind of mustang soo i dont know is this anything special or just a plan old 351w. If it is something rare i dont really need it i just thought it was cool it had the 4bbl intake on it this is the first 351w with a 4bbl on it that i have seen.
351W The 4bbl was "normally" a Mach 1 option. The 351W 4 bbl did also find it's way into every Ford/Merc built. Not just a Stang engine. The exhaust ports really hurt their true potential thou. Same as a 289/302s even with the bigger valve.
Just got the engine back today i got it baked and cleaned and the exhaust ported like you said, it looking pretty nice soon as i slap some paint on i think it will be ready to go.. ok one stupid question how do i get the old freeze plugs out when i was in school and putting the engines together the i never had to take them out only put them in.
hammer and either a screwdriver or punch. tap on one side of the plug to cause it to swivel in the hole and then grab it with pliers or vise-grips and pull it out. put the punch down in the cup of the plug. don't put it up on the edge where you might score the side of the hole by accident. if you score it, it will probably leak when you put in the new plug. but i hope you aren't saying that someone boiled the block without removing the freeze and galley plugs first???? if they weren't removed then it might not be as clean inside as you think. you might want to invest in some engine brushes, soap and hot water and clean out the passages.
2 on each side were removed, i just didnt know how to get the rest out. Thats what i thought my teacher taught us how to get them out but i was having second thoughts on doing that thinking i might lose one in side and never get it out.
as soon as it turns enough to grip a lip with vise-grips, lock them on and then finish. wont lose it inside then.
core plugs And when you get the olkd ones out, look inside for others that have been pounded in. factory did it sometimes and a bad one is usually pushed in and a new one installed. Quicker and easier that way. You' d be surprised how many extra plugs I've found. They can also make for hot spots.
Is the water pump from a 302 interchangeable with a 351w, or the alernator brackets and powersteering brackets?
