I think if you tell your plans for the motor you might get more help? Is it for the street or for racing, do you plan on boost or any kind of power adder? All of this will help point you in the right direction.

Mainly for the street, with the idea of going to the track maybe once or two times a year with friends. No added boost of any kind. Thanks Robert:drive:

    lol, you're just bad....;)

You could call up CHP (Coast High Performance) http://www.coasthigh.com/category-s/140303.htm and ask about their kit with the 5.315 rods to keep it from burning oil...if you're going to run it on the street. Talk to them about what you want thats where i got my kit, and the rest came from jegs or summit racing via catalog and internet... As for specifics, you can find articles all over the internet, look up coast high performance on google and find some of there buildups in hotrod mag or mustangs and fords mag and they'll get more into details.. otherwise ask the tech people, or just buy a longblock and install, they sell those as well if you're uncomfortable.

I've heard that 347 blow up easily, anyone know anything about that? I would hate to blow up my car at the race track, and have to push it on the trailer.

Hey guys, saw a link to my shop from here so thought I would pop in and address any concerns. As for the 347 using oil that is nonsense. Understand scat and eagle do NOT make a short rod for 347, they make a 5.400 so that would mean it would have to use a 1.090 CH piston which puts the pin in the oil ring, they have been making 1000's upon 1000's of these rods for along time. So if it was an issue they certainly would have made a short rod, now the 331 uses the same 5.400 rod as the 347 but there is 50 347's for every 1 331 running around. As for blowing up, that is prototypical internet madness. I build 100-125 or so engines per year, 75ish of them are 347's, with a few 331's thrown in and the rest big inch windsors, if the 347 had issues, I would be out of business with comebacks, which is simply not the case, BUT in the end to me from a profit and building standpoint the 331 costs the same as a 347 to buy and or build so it's irrelevant to me what the paying customer wants, as long as he is happy. Last note is I spoke with a 347 customer of mine a few months ago and he has 67k or so miles on my 347 I built for him and hes the stereotypical street car guy, he makes his living as a pizza delivery guy with his 347 powered foxbody. Be glad to answer any questions....

    :)

Amen brother, the man has spoken. I guess you never know who is lurking out there.

As said before watch out for low cost stroker kits cuase you usually get what you pay for.

Actually, I should have stipulated this more clearly... I agree 100% their telephone staff sounded like they were still in highschool, and didnt know clearances, torque ratings, etc.. pretty much everything i asked... the products ARE good though, thats why i used them... now to restate what i said earlier, i should've said for you to call and talk to the owner CHRIS HUFF... real nice guy, knows his stuff, but extremely hard to get a hold of.. names not listed anywhere on their website, or on google... just one article i found with his name in it, and then i went to their spell by name directory on their companies phone system... lol..

heres some links about their buildups and some differences.
