I have a 302 with block casting numbers of EOAE. from what I can tell by investigation is its a 1980 bolck wich should be a 28 oz engine am I correct. and if so I asume there is a difference in harmonic balancers?
Either way when I install either balancer it does seem they penitrate the timing cover seal. I reinstalled a new seal from th3e inside of the cover which I beleive is correct. Any insight on my masterful screw up!

    :hmmm: Thanks, Mitch

the balance depends on the crank used. the block year doesnt mater.

that i do not know. find the factory part number on it. then on line some where the has to be a decoder of some sort that you can figure out what the crank is. is the crank the origanal one for that 80 block?

Ok so after doing the homework I should have done before asking ive found that this is a 50 oz engine it does have the crank casting of 2mae.
so half done what do you think of the harmonic balancer question. the correct balancer just doesnt seem to protrude into the seal. how far in should it go. do I possible have the seal in wrong? dont know how that could be cause the bock of the timing cover is recessed to accept the seal.

the balancer is a press fit on the crank. some will go in pretty easy and others have a really tight press fit. if the crank bolt goes in at least 5 full turns i will use it to pull the balancer on. put some heavy grease on washer and threads of the bolt and then use it drive the balacer down. i belive it botoms out against the timeing chain sprocket.
