I'm not crazy on the engine choice either but ya gotta admit...that's a 1st class build there! Very nice work!!! (y)

    design

So, just out of my senility and trying to remember your original design, how much of your original design did they use?

I just saw Tokyo Drift. Someone was bound to recreate the Mustang. I think they should have used a Maverick myself.

    toky drift

You realise that the two Mustangs they used for most of the action sequences had big inch Windsors, right? They only used the engine swapped one for visuals and such...

Thanks for all the comps guys, trying to wrap up all of the last little details to fire this thing up. I'll post back in a few weeks once we break it in and dyno tune it.

That Mustang in the movie was really cool, but actually that's not where the concept came from. When I first saw this Maverick it had the hood opened and I saw it had an Inline 6. The first thing that came out of my mouth was "This thing needs a Supra drivetrain, everyone knows that when it comes to Inline 6's, Supras rule". It kind of just took off from there.
Every bit of my original design was used Cody..........and then some!
And is it senility, or just Sour Grapes???

    senility

Sour grapes? If I had a case of sour grapes, it would be from Spectre picking my design and using it as a back of thier mind idea and not a blueprint. Nope, never even bothered to collect my prize from Spectre. Guess I could just pick some generic stuff out and order it for possible use on my wife's turbo Maverick or my turbo Mustang. They don't have anything of interest to me for my Fairlane, but I may have to look at their products again.

I went back and looked at the original submission just to get an idea of how close the project was running to your design. As an Electrical/Mechanical engineer and project lead, I am very accustomed to my designs being thorough, but also adapted and improved upon as long as they still meet my design criteria. Let's do some quick comparisons, if I may. Lots of cut and paste, so you may have to pay attention to help you remember what you designed and what they did!

    Design

    Body:

The first major body mod is to the rear of the car, molding in a duck tail onto the trunk lip,

that would swoop up similar to an early 70’s Funny Car.

The hood is the second major body mod, it has a 2” raised cowl and features a NACA

duct front and center, similar to a Viper.

    Side moldings shaved and smoothed.

The front features a modified ’71 Mustang spoiler.

The paint has been upgraded to a House of Kolor Pearl Blue or Teal.

Spectre Performance logos ghosted in on the quarter panels.

All exterior Chrome tinted in blue.

Billet wheels required for the Muscular look. I featured Centerline Matrix with deep lips in

    the renderings.

Rear leaf springs moved inboard to allow for a wider offset rear tire.
    Rear Inner Fenders modified

Here was the original photo you put in the thread, was not able to copy and past from your original PDF from my laptop

Here are the next photos after you spoke with Spectre:

What happened to the 71 Mustang front spoiler, and duct tail rear spoiler to tie into that 70's theme? No NACA duct? Dual exhaust?
Well, at least the color and wheels will be your design, and of course the suspension and interior, right? Nope, color is different, and:

Billet wheels required for the Muscular look. I featured Centerline Matrix with deep lips in the renderings.

    Side moldings shaved and smoothed?

No shaved moldings and car now has 285/40/18 in the rear, the fronts are 235/40/17's. The wheels are Boulevards by Centerline Racing Wheels.

Rebuilt 7M-GTE with upgraded Toyota CT-26 Turbocharger.

    Massaged Shock Towers as required.

HKS Metal Head Gasket with ARP Head Bolts.

    Spectre Performance EMS-PRO™ ENGINE MANAGEMENT.

    Front Mount Intercooler.

    Spectre Performance Intercooler Piping.

Spectre Performance Fresh Air Intake Piping and filter.

Spectre Performance Engine Dress Up Hose Kit

    Toyota R-154 5 speed transmission.

Maintain the Maverick Rear end or upgrade to Ford 9", with inboard leaf springs as

    mentioned above.

    Custom built driveshaft.

    Custom built 3” downpipe.
Full 3” exhaust exits out back center.

    Actual?

    Rod and Custom Motorsports Coilover
    Shaved shock towers
This is the modified rear floor to accomodate the R&C Coilover Kit. The rear seat is long gone, the car will be a 2 seater and the rear will be covered with a stereo enclosure.

    Actual

What happened to stock front suspension with clearanced inner fenders, and relocated inboard leaves on the rear?

    Design

7 way power seats pirated from the same MKIII Supra, covered in Katzkins custom

leather and cloth, black or charcoal.

Deleted rear seats and carpeted compartment (black or charcoal) for my Power Tour

    luggage space.

    Bitching Stereo System

    Actual

You were pretty vague on all of this, but I did see that the seats were changed to Momo Seats. I don't see much room in the back for luggage or stereo with the rear suspension/cage in the rear of the car. Also, isn't there a trunk mounted fuel cell?. So when the stereo takes up the rest of the nooks and crannies in rear seat area, where will 8 days of luggage fit? Ever driven a car with a polished aluminum dash? The glare is really bad, especially over long periods, and eye fatigue gets to be a major ordeal.

I understand you going stoked about Spectre picking your outline for a car...and with the very loose set of criteria you specified, maybe it's right up your alley. I am very specific about the designs I work on for people/companies, and am not interested in working with those that take a full blown design I spend months on as a "suggestion". As a person who regularly has to make tough decisions every day about designs that affect many people, I take my designs very seriously. That is the way I am wired, but I understand that others are thrilled to be in your position and have their name associated with a project such as this.

I have had my wife's Maverick together as a driver for about six months now and she has really enjoyed it. I just finished the engine, and have part of the hotside for the turbo together. Most of the rest of it is on hold while she finished medical school and we watch what the current economic trends are. We may be selling our primary residence and moving to our house in the country... it's paid for, and eliminating the house payment on our second house would allow us to build cars faster!

By the way, any updates on Spectre's site on your Maverick design? It is not listed on their site anywhere...
