So folks ,putting together the 69.5 v8 5 speed car and im starting to notice big differaces between it and the 74 and 75 parts donnor ,Here is one ,the 69.5 never came with power steering and im putting power steering in it .Ill have to modify the frame rail mount to put the power steering ram in as the 75 car had two holes threaded to bolt the ram to the driver side frame ,the 69.5 has the holes but there not threaded ,ill have to drill the holes a little larger and weld two nuts into the holes flush with the frame rail to bolt it on . Its a small problem but i have it figured out and ill have it installed next week end . Ill keep you all posted of the problems i run in to as i do the conversion to v8 rack-in pinion power steering 5 speed . Cheers Jimmy

What rack and pinion setup are you using?

Guess i'm confused cause I read "ram" AND a rack in pinion... which one are you trying to have?

so your installing a mustang 2 rack and pinion, but your concerned about the factory power stearing ram mount holes? doesnt the mustang 2 rack go in front of the crossmemeber. im probly missing something here but it seems to me that if your puting the m2 rack behind the crossmember where the stock stearing stuff went. if you do this the stearing will be reversed.

The firewall and trans. tunnel will need slightly modified also for a V-8,compared to the '71 and up Mavericks

Yep, better check that out. A front steer rack wouldn't work on a rear steer car. It would pull when it needed to push.....

No ram needed with a rack and pinion. Makes no sense at all.

    what everyone else said :)

if you plan to run a rack & pinion then dont bother make the cylinder mount work for the factory '75 setup. use one or the other as they're totally different setups. if u do plan to go with a rack & pinion setup, seek kits listed for falcons. those kits have measurements that are within 1/4" of fitting a mav nicely. those need less mods to work than any other setup i can think of... good luck

That would be interesting to drive. :rofl2:

I assume you mean because he is planning to run a T5? I've put a 302/C4 in a '69.5, and the only mods required to the body was to drill another hole for the double hump transmission crossmember. Everything else fit and bolted right in, including the belly bar.

Sorry guys i didnt spend enough time to explain myself . I was in a hurry to go to the moster truck show .Im playing with both systems right now ,the factory power steering from the 75 grabber is what im installing now cuz its a 50 min re and re,i want to see how that works ,then i will pull it if it is really not that great, then the big job of cutting and opening the shock towers and making plates against the frame rails to get the m2 rack in ,one is a 50 min job and the other is a full day job ,try the simplest one first. Im in no big hurry ,this car is not scheduled to insure and drive till May and i got my buddy Chris to pull wrench and to work with 16 hours every week end till the end of May depending on the weather for each weekend.

Definitely agree on buying the nut inserts vs. drilling out the holes and welding nuts. There was a long discussion thread on how to get them to expand without having the insert tool over on the vintage-mustang forum. If I can find it I'll post a link for you. - Matt
