Why not use a Ford hemi? They made 2 ya know... both would blow away a late model Dodge hemi. A stock 427 SOHC made 625 hp and then there was the Boss 429.
Put the badges on it upside down like the import guys do.....IW3H. Then when somebody asks what it is, tell them it's a Interworld3homogenizer. That'l get some looks!
Simply because a guy can go buy a late model hemi. And like i said it makes 370 hp is dead nuts reliable and idles smooth. Im not saying its better than an old ford hemi just saying it would make a hell of a street car.
Finding a 427 ford up here is pretty scarse. Even 1 that needs rebuilt is almost the cost of a used 5.7 that has low miles on it. Lots guys up here are transplanting 5.7s and 6. hemi's into early 60-70 dodge products.Lots to be bought from Mopar performance or outta wrecks.I like the idea of a 427. Had 1 in a 66 galaxie, 2 door b4. Called a 7 litre car. C6 with 355's. was a nice car. Should never have sold it. Betcha you all have regretted selling a car in the past too. Oh well thats water under the bridge now. Maybe 1 day????????????.
i 3rd that, but being that i work for chrysler, i guess i should put my two cents in. a late model hemi has 2 MAJOR flaws, it is controlled by chrysler engineered powertrain module, and WEAK valve springs, they break all the time, i have seen AT LEAST 3 catastrofic failures from broken valve springs that dropped the valve. but i have seen in, i think engine masters where they had a stock hemi out of an 03 and on the engine dyno made some decent numbers, then they used a F.A.S.T. controller and different headers and made over 400 w stock longblock, then installed a set of mopar performance heads and was in the 500 range, then supercharged in the high 600-700 range all on stock bottom end. DODGE PCMS SUCK!!! but if it was going to dream it, i get the 6.4L / 392 late model hemi crate motor at 595 hp out of the box, comes injected ot carbed!! that much trouble, id have the cobra drive train as forementioned for the "stilla ford factor" and be super fast and cool!!! do a google search for "sn65"
Had a number of HEMI's in with dropped valves. Broken valve springs, broken cam pins, couple of rods through blocks, blown up intakes, bad MDS components, collapsed lifters. Try and diagnose a cracked intake with drive by wire. Oh boy!!! This is not your fathers HEMI. If your thinking used make sure its not an early model. 05 and up. I'd go with a crate motor and carb set up. They use the coil on plug and look really clean. Look awesome in an old Mopar. As mentioned above our Chrysler pcm's do indeed SUCK. The tranny software and or modules also fall into the SUCK category. Talk about SLOWWWWW and lacking good manual control.
