I hooked up with Frank and "the other Terry" this morning and we went to a junkyard. It was one of those you stay in the office and they will go get the part for you type of junkyard...But the other Terry knew the owner and got us in the yard. hell i went junk hopping yesterday.... i came across a 71 comet, 75 comet v8 ldo (i'm getting the motor mounts & x member tomorrow), 70 maverick w/ ldo parts, 73 maverick ldo. during my trip all i got was a heater w/ ac switch, and one hell of a cold.
How much would i like to go for a walk around that scrape yard, up here in Canada in our bone yards the cars all get crushed and stacked so there are very few places where you can do a walk around to look at these cars. And the places where the cars are still in one piece most of the cars are 1994 and up, nothing really old .
Same thing over on THIS side of the Rockies... only found one Maverick after visiting 5 wreckers and it was little more than a shell. A few of our wreckers closed down to make way for new land developments. So much for "recycling old parts"... it's easier and cheaper to just buy a whole car and strip it. I miss the good ol' days (when I was 16) and a day at the wreckers was like a treasure hunt. Comin' home filthy with a big grin after a day well spent.
I am in awe seeing that many goodies all in the same place. I need to start hunting in some more rural areas a bit away from here ...
