Thanks, looking at a beautiful 71 maverick, not sure yet if i'm gonna buy it for him as it has a lot of slop in the steering. Any ideas what would cause this? Thanks again.

the rag join in the stearing shaft right before i enters the stearing box could be worn out. the power stearing give the feeling of lots of slop when the car is not runnig. when the car is running, hydrolic pressure on the controle valve takes out some slop. the stearing box could be worn out. the tie rods could be worn out. the idler arm could be bad.

or go to a junk yard and grab some from just about any old ford. if you dont see the bolts grab them also. i use the hex head that comes in a craftsman traveling tool set when i forget my star nut driver :)

on the steering, only real hard fix is the steering box if it is toast. usually that isnt the case though.

:yup: Mine came from a '72 LTD. I now have three belts in the back so I can put the baby seat in the middle when I take my 2 year old to watch the races. And the two belts on the sides are retractable and hidden. Bolted right in.
