when I get on the highway my mav starts vibrating at 65 every time I just had an alignment done and I have new tires. my leaf springs sage alot so the front is higher than the back and when i look at the car from the back its slightly tilts so it is lower on the drivers side if you guys could give me some insight on what might be going on it would make my trips to work alot less bumpy.

    Thanks

possibly may have a broke spring? i would look real close in between the u-bolts thats usually where they break and they will still stay together......as far as the vibration goes i would check your u-joint and the yoke to make sure they are good.......also, i dont know how many mavs had this, but my mav had a ring around the driveshaft yoke up at the tranny that was just like a harmonic balancer that had the rubber ring to seperate them.....dunno if yours has this or not but the rubber rotted on mine and the ring ended up on the driveshaft. may want to check that too

Vibration at highway speeds can be caused by several things. Common items are bad u-joints in the drive shaft, motor mounts and/or transmssion mounts, to name a couple. You need to make sure you mean a real vibration and not a shake or shimmy. These can be caused by bad suspension components, warped front brake rotors or drums, tire balance and wear. Sometimes, especially on vehicles with miles and years on them, a combination of these are at work.

I recently had a vibration problem at speeds in my Cherokee and it was, in fact, bad u-joints.

If I were you, I'd do something about those rear leaves also. This cannot be helping the situation and will lead to other damage over time. You could 'cheap out' with a set of helper springs and heavy duty shocks for the short term, but if they are as bad as you state, I'd get a new set of springs soon. They are available.

my maverick develops a vibration between 55-63 mph, but oddly enough... smooths out @ 70.

put the pedal to the medal, bro. see if anything changes

You probably have the orginal springs. People don't think they wear out but they do. They weren't that good to begin with. Go get new ones and make the car level. Right now you have to much angle on your U joints causing premature wear and exessive angle which is causing your vibration.

actaully there's a way to tell which end of the car it's coming from. In the steering wheel is front end, in the car seat is from the rear end.

I'm getting ready to replace my front shocks too because the rubber ring on the top of the shock is almost completly gone it sounds terrible when i go over the smallest bump. the shaking is in both the steering wheel and the seat. I'm saving up to by new leafsprings from espo springs & things about its like $150 and I just blew all my money on a holley street avenger carb and the street dominator intake and besides the shaking at 65 the car runs so good now and has so much more power thanks for the help in my other thread about the carb and intake.

You said you have new tires. I'm assuming they were balanced when they were mounted. Did one or more of the wheel weights come off? Might be worth a look. In a lot of cases the weights leave witness marks where they used to be. Don't forget to look on the insides too.

1974 Maverick I bought for $500 8 years ago when I was 16. Since then I have invested $30,000 into it.
    Check the U's

Like the other guys said check the U-bollts I just lost my drive shaft because the nuts on the U-bolts loosened on me and I was getting the same thing. Vibration between 55-65 mph then at 70 was gone. Dont let it go long mine snuck up quick. Thom
