I remember when i was first trying to buy my comet. The owner was selling it for $700. I had the money and i told my parents what i was looking at (Im only 18 and im graduating this year so they still control me, well sometimes.). So they said no. well the next couple of weeks went by and i had been talking to the owner and had convinced him to sell it for $450. So again i told my parents what was going on and again they said no. My mother said "if you get him down to $300, you can buy it". I said ya right. Well i met up with the own and told him to bring the comet. I brought with me $300 in cash and he took it. Man i was so happy. I learned money really does talk. But glad to have the car. Its so much fun. Even for only having the 250 inline six.

Nice to hear a father and son getting a car to restore, very cool. I can't wait till my son gets a bit older so we can work on the Comet together or maybe his own Maverick, for now i bring him to car shows and cruise nights. And i take lots of pictures so when he's older he will have something to look from when he was 7 years old.(y)

    Hi hennon05,

I just wanted to suggest that you and your son take a look at the fordsix forum on www(dot)classicinlines(dot)com.

On the forums, they've got a lot of folks talking about how to make that 200 cu in six outperform a 302 (power to weight). You don't have to be an A+ mechanic. The folks over there are extremely helpful in answering questions or making suggestions.

www(dot)classicinlines(dot)com also has many of the parts you'll need to get that performance.

Since you and your son are already "Mavericks", why not continue the theme and stay with the straight six?

    Just my 2 cents,
    BaldEagleMav

Thanks for the info Bald Eagle, I will definately check that out. Does any one know if a set of crager unilug 14" rims off a 73 mustang will fit my sons 77 mav? It's got 3 hubcaps now, we gotta make it look kinda cool before his friends see it!!! lol

    Hi again, hennon05,

Yes, those Cragars will fit the Maverick.

It has the same 5 lugs on a 4 1/2" circle pattern as the Mustang - assuming the Mustang is not a 6 cylinder car with 4 lug wheels!

    Regards,

I gave my son a classic for his 16th birthday. It lead to a closeness most parents only dream about. We have become best friends. It has been a VERY bonding experience. We are currently working together to finish a project we started 6 years ago.

Congrats on the purchase. Enjoy the times together. They grow up fast.

If you only were closer to Woodstock Ont. I would donate 2, 14x8 Cragar SS and 2, 14x6 Cragar GT rims. 5 lug. Chrome has peeled in some spots but they are better than nothing. Came off my 1st Comet GT. Need tires and lug nuts. But for free, better than nothing...
