72 comet motor hp

    Im picking up a 72 comet Gt but the build date on the car is 10-71 just curious which horsepower rating the 302 would have since 71 is listed at 210hp and the 72 is listed at 143hp.

    if its original its the 72 numbers. low compression engine for 72 emissions.

    ya, its 143hp. Same car that I have.... so long 72 302, hello 90 302EFI (225hp)

    The 210 for 71 and 143 for 72 are a lot closer than the numbers indicate ... they went to a different grading system and started using all the motor accessories and full exhaust. Earlier HP ratings were called "Gross HP" and later are called "Net HP".

    Yeah, power was down a bit for 72, but you are not comparing apples to apples.

    Made cars look a lot better to the insurance companies that were on the rampage at the time, too.

    So, did you buy the GT from Mich? If not, where did you find one? I looked, and mine was still in my garage, so I know my son didn't sell it behind my back, lol. Congrats on the purchase.
