I am starting to install a stereo in my Maverick, but need some info on antennas. What shape is the base of the factory antenna? Does anyone have any suggestions on whether to use a factory or aftermarket.

What do people think look best?

That's gonna be one of my next projects. I hate that antenna.

I was planning to install a power antenna later on, like Craig Selvey did on his '72 Grabber. What kind of reception are you guys getting with it mounted under the dash?

The stock antenna base is rectangular. I am sure there are a number of people here on the forum that will sell you a used one.

I intend to hide my antenna as well when my car is painted again.

This is what I recently did and didnt think to see if others on here did it as well... hmmm... good minds think alike. It's clean looking. The box I got mounted under the dash picks up just fine, probably better than the original because it picks up digital and analog. But I listen to the ipod or cds more often than not...

Don't really know why I even HAVE an antenna. Don't listen to the radio. I'd rather listen to the sweet music played by Mr 347. :)

check my antenna mod, cut to desired length, shrink-wrap it, and vacum cap it and away you go. clean look.
