Well, those of you that know. I went to the strip a couple of weeks back with my 4 door and got a 12.627 et. (even though it wasnt me runing!).... well i though i would give it a try. having only done this 4 times, i floored it. well i didnt go very far. so when i towed it home my rear gears wernt looking so good. i never knew the teeth would come off like and bend that!!! im just glad i have spares! im working on getting a 9" but cant find a direct bolt on. every thing seems too long. well though i would tell you how my second run with my car when! haha Later James
Not discouraging you, it's just that the smaller rears can handle a lot more h.p. than first believed (when built right). Here's a good source for standard width rears for ya (if you haven't already located a reference site). http://dfwmotorsport.com/Fairlane/9inchrearends.htm more info: http://www.differentials.com/products.html Keep us posted, -Rick
I did something like that once. I raced at one track Friday night, track was slippery so I was brake torquing it to around 3,500 just to get a decent 60 ft. Well, the next night at a different track, I was thinking and I ran the rpm's up to 3,500 and when I let off the brake, the car took a small leap and quit pulling. I could hear the drive shaft rattle around in the driveshalt loop. aaaaaaah the things we do!
Thanx! Thank you for the info rick. i have beenthinking of building an 8" but i hear its hard to find a posi for one and they arent cheap. i guess it all depends on what i can afford.
