muscle is muscle is muscle.... no matter what kind of car it is if it has muscle and you wanna call it that... go right ahead... but in the classic sense of a big beefy 100% steel american gas guzzling ozone killer that weighs more than your house... no a maverick is by no means a "muscle car"... i just consider mine a classic :thumbs2:

Yeah chebby did that of course they also made some huge failures with their performance cars too like the 305 vette or the 1.8l iron duke comaro. But when chebby was doing that ford was putting hipo 289's and 427's in comets and falcons and fairlanes, that was the 60's and if the maverick was around for more than half a year in the 60's then It probably would have gotten one of those motors too, but the maverick was made in the 70's and big muscle was on its way out.
I think i would classify that car as a "pony" car, the maverick took up the position that the mustang was originally supposed to be. A small easy to work on sporty looking car that was easy to drive.

Webster ALMOST got it right. I'd replace "high-preformance driving" with "straight line acceleration". :chirp:Cornering and braking weren't high priorities.

Muscle car is a term used to refer to a variety of high performance automobiles.[1][2] At its most widely accepted the term refers to American 2-door rear wheel drive mid-size cars of the late 1960s and early 1970s equipped with large, powerful V8s and sold at an affordable price for street use and drag racing, formally and informally.[3][4][5][6]
As such, they are distinct from two-seat sports cars and expensive 2+2 GTs intended for high-speed touring and road racing.

so id have to agree with markso with it being a pony car just my :2cents:
