I am putting an 86 302 in my maverick. It came out of a lincoln and it has a roller cam. It had an electric fuel pump on it. I was wondering if I could run a mechanical pump on it
Yup, all you need to do is knock out the space on the timing cover and put an eccentric on the cam gear. :thumbsp:
yes, you need to use the timeing chain cover from a mehancical pump motor and the round fuel pump cam that goes on the end of the cam.
i think they run like $20 on ebay. dont forget the cam/eccentric dowel pin. they longer for the older, mechanical fuel pump engines
Some of the older models had the inside of the pump eccentric already on the cam, I rebuilt a 88 a while back and it had the eccentric.
probly cost, and simplisty. dont have to wire in a fuel pump, decent elec pumps that are not noisy are expensive and really not nessary on a stock to mild motor.
thats exactly why. My dad checked it and said it had the gear for a fuel pump. It had a throttle body on it
Just be sure its the 1 piece and not the 2 piece, Or has both pieces if its a 2 piece. The one i rebuilt had only the inside piece and was missing the outside. And i know the motor never had been into because the guy bought the car new.
