I've had the same idea, Super, floating around in my head for quite a while now.... I can't decide whether to use a 4 door and have the cruiser look or a 2 door for the pursuit vehicle thing... It'd be pretty easy to pull off though... black and white, poverty caps, even paint a star on the side... some antennas, grille lights, spot lights and voila!, instant cop car.

I'll add it to my list of Mavericks that I probably won't get around to building!

    Sam:)

Well, since i worked for the prince george couthouse in va, i can tell you what will and wont fly...

No light bar of any colors except white/amber (and the white can ONLY face the front of the vehicle)
no decals replicating any sort of law enforcement/emergency/response vehicle
    no search light
no siren in opperation on public roads

A vehicle in the commonwealth of Va. can only have white and amber lights on the front of the vehicle, red lensed lights on the rear (only exception is if its stock equipment), no more than 4 white lights on the rear (reverse and plate lights), and no other colors other than amber, white, or red are allowed on a vehicle. Even the "ice blue" or whatever headlights are illegal (unless they're stock).

so, short of a black and white maverick with a tow-truck cherry on top, your SOL. That is, unless its gonna be a show car and never touch public roads...

welcome to the commonwealth of virginia.

I was looking at the VA Code, and it looked like if you had the lights covered and turned off that it would be ok. I dunno... looks like it's gonna be hard to do it in the lovely state of VA... woohoo! Mavaholic, u think I could get those specs on the Police Maverick to aid in my project?

    Thanks,
    Jason

You can have a patrol car replica. There's a national club of just those owners. There's some things you have to do when you're driving it.

All emergency lights should be covered. You can uncover them when you get to your destination. Many owners cover the municipal markings on the road until they get to the show, etc.

If anyone is planning to do this, I have several books with pictures of older patrol cars from across the country. I'd gladly supply some picture copies to help. There are no Mavs in these books, however. Novas and Volares, yes..no Mavs.

Someone had a perfect replica of the original Adam-12 '68 Belvedere on eBay last week. I was drooling. A future project is a restored or replica patrol car. I have a 'bubble gum machine' just waiting for the right car. :D
