If the Sport Mirrors and Rear Spoiler are nice they are worth some bucks.

Is it a 302 car? The 302 Clutch Linkage is worth $$$. And the V8 conversion parts.

Also the tranny rear housing with the linkage and shifter is worth $$$ for folks wanted to convert from 3 on the tree.

Also Floor Shift column is worth $$$.

If the hood is not ROTTED it should be worth some money too.

Plus Grabber Grill - SportLights & Switch.

If the bumpers are straight and rechromable they are worth money.

Exactly what is the extent of the ROT??? You talking floor boards, subframe, cowl, trunk floor, fender aprons, etc ????

If the hood lip in the front isnt rotten...Its worth some money...more if the surface rust is gone...The rear deck spoiler quarter panel end caps and all the mounting hardware is worth some money too if it isnt craked/broken and none of the fasteners are ripped out of the fiberglass.Price is the fun part...a good straight/clean grabber hood will get 300.00 all day.The spoilers...anywhere from 60.00 to 150.00 provided the parts are all there and undamaged. If someone really wants em and there really nice...expect a bit more.Good luck.

Then park it next to Dan Hines car or Dave Boyer's, and I think you'll see it's not even in the same time zone, much less the same ball park. How much did you pay for the car? $500 won't even get you a decent front suspension and brakes. :biglaugh: Hell, I've probably got about 2 grand in my '72 beater, and it's still an utter piece of s#!t, but I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere.

Back to the original post... that would be such a neat car if it were restored due to the color and stuff. If it's really that bad, I'd probably find another clean 71 or 72 body and rebody the car,...... but I didn't say that. ;)

By the looks of your picture you got yourself a rust-free car for a good price. No rust will keep the price way down ... because:

    1) You don't have to pay for hundreds of hours of repair and smoothing.
    2) You don't have to repaint ...

If you were doing a full resto just a nice show quality two-stage paint job is gonna cost anywhere between $5K to 10K .... and that doesn't included body repair.

Now lets say you are doing a full resto ... reupholstery, new headliner, all new or NOS lights, chrome, small parts, etc .... it adds up.

You have a nice quality Driver ... and for $3K ... that is what you get ...

Just out of curiosity, does your first part of your user name(Apex) have anything to do with the tech school down in NYC?

Dan said the same thing every one else said. You start out with a nicer car, it will cost you less and be less headache in the long run. He said for 3 grand you claim that you will have into your car, you have a nice driver quality Maverick. Nice enough to take to some shows, but not a show car like we are talking about in this thread. The bottom line is, no amount of bartering is going to get this car restored for anywhere near $500, especially not to show quality like I would expect the thread starter wants for 30 grand.

Make it a rat-rod until a better car comes along.

Why did you buy the car?... were you planning on fixing it up yourself, or sending it to a resto shop to have the car restored all at once? That could take several months to several years I guess.

We all dream of starting with a "rust free car" but here in Canada that usually refers to something new or an obscenely expensive low-mileage old car.. both my Comets have rotten trunks but I don't care. The worse one - my red daily driver - has rust holes on both sides and loads of primer on the door sills covering rust as well and I get compliments every day.

Since you've already bought the car and it's sitting in your yard, there's no sense in being pissed at the car or the guy who sold it to you.

I would get your hands dirty and start messing around with it. Don't spend any money, get a feel for it, see if things come apart and itemize what's sellable. I've used gallons of WD-40 to remove and dismantle rusty parts. Is the drivetrain any good? Wait till the Mustang is sold then figure out what to do... unless you're not mechanically inclined.

In years of reading Hot Rod and Car Craft I saw chunks of rust get restored into classics. If it's too bad, make it a rat rod! ;)
