This car was doomed. It was purchased by the shop who was restoring my 72 maverick for parts. They saw this car at a gas station, and purchased it outright. They then brought it back to the shop, and began to rob it for hinges, bolts etc etc. The shop went out of business, and I picked up my 72 maverick...painted but not complete. Next to it, they had the "parts" maverick. I figured, what the hell. $300 later they sold it to me, and I was on a trailer on the way home with it. My full intention was to part it out. Until I put the key into the ignition and it roared to life and drove!!!. Crap. the guilt set in. Although in decnt condition, it was hit hard, and the frame bent and 1/4 screwed. I continued with my goal of parting it out. It was being stored at a local body shop whom I befriended. Well, I guess I talk too much, because before too long, I had struck a deal with the body shop owner to pull the frame straight. The car was twisted decently and drove like it too. $500 for the deal of a lifetime got the frame completely pulled straight. A month later, my pops and I decided to get the 1/4 panel fixed. This is where it sits now. They're nearly done with the 1/4 panel work. $400 got the rear 1/4 panel completely fixed, rust taken care of, and rockers on both sides fixed (dent from running over something) it'll be left in a primer stage awaiting paint. My father is ready to paint it soon too. It'll be painted the original grabber blue with the stripes. I've got brand new acc carpet which I'll sell to my father (and just pick some more up for my 72)..this car will get late model fox black bucket seats. For now it'll keep sporting the 6, but we're on our way to collection the v8 conversion parts. THought you guys would appreciate this build. We're in the hole only $1200 now including the price of the car, and have a 100% rust free straight original 70 grabber The day i picked it up the side with the damage. The damage is pretty bad...pictures don't do it justice Frame damage and a small amount of rust 1/4 panel is pushed out quite a bit, AND in
Now onto the fun stuff. frame damaged on both sides fixed 1/4 panel fixed and rust repaired. *****body shop still is working on the car..these are in between pics
Man, you gotta get rid of those hubcaps!! Other than that, Yippie!! another Maverick saved from the crusher!! Yippie!!
what do you mean, I payed good money for those!!!! JK...it's representative of the former owner and the neglect it went through. You think those are bad, you should see the mickey mouse bucket seat install. I should have a stock set of caps laying around I'll likely throw onto it.
it was too original of a survivor for me to just strip it. Has anyone ever noticed that you can't build just ONE car... I got into mustangs a long while back and picked up an 86 convertible. Before you knew it, between my family we picked up an 86 ttop and an 86 ssp highway patrol coupe. Then I get started on the 72 maverick, and suddenly I've got TWO f'n mavericks. Now how the hell did that happen??!!!! These cars seem to attract more cars. It sickens me and pleasures me
