I'm hoping someone can help me with an issue. I rolled down the driver side window this morning on my 71 Mav and when I went to roll it back up it got stuck. When I tried moving the handle harder I heard a loud pop and the window is stuck in the full down position. I tried to remove the inner door panel to take a peak, and it appears that the window is not connected any longer to the mechanism. Something has apparently broken. First question is, how do I completely remove the inner door panel. I removed the window handle and the arm rest, but how do I get the inner door handle mechanism to release so I can remove the panel? Then, how do I fix the darn window? I have never seen the inside of a car door before so I have no clue. Or would I be better off taking it to an auto glass place? :hmmm:

to remove the door panel you have to pop out the clips that hold the panel in place around the door [try not to break the backing]then to get the door handle off you must unscrew the nut that holds it together on the side[requires philips head screw driver].then when you look into the door, look for small plastic retainer clips on the bottom.[mine were blue]if you see the clips, and there broken then you will have to buy new clips.I recomend d.i.y its always interesting. however if you find yourself stuck ,the pros are always there.

Not sure what the 71s look like, but if its a recessed handle with a chrome bezel around it, it probably has a plastic cup (kinda a liner behind the handle )on the inside. Just pry that out gently with a very small slim bladed screwdriver or similar. There will be a screw behind that holding that chrome cup to the door . The cup will slid out and then you have to gently and carefully pop the clips that hold the trim panel on. Be careful here the old trim panel will break where the clips mount due to age. A nice narrow blade heavy putty knife with a little tape wrapped around it will work. tape will protect the painted surfaces.

Then you can have a look and see what gave up the ghost as far as the regulator goes.

This same thing JUST happened to me recently, I haven't really tried to track down any clips yet so if you find some, let me know. The other post were right on with how to remove the door latch handle and panel.
