    Engine number

All this talk about 302 HP prompted me to ask this question here.
My 302 no longer had the valve cover tag providing information. Unfortunately, I don't know when the engine was manufactured.

Surely there must be another way to glean this info. How about a serial number. If so, where can I find that?

If there is a place on this site the information can be found, please point me in that direction.

    Thanks.

You will need to get the casting numbers off the block/heads to determine year of manufacture. If your engine is unmolested there is a metal tag sandwiched between the coil bracket hold down bolt and intake manifold or dipstick tube bracket bolt.(this applies to 1/64 to 2/73) models.casting numbers are found on the deck side of the cyl heads between the intake runners.block casting numbers is located next to the oil pan rail (on a pad)on the rear right hand side. These will give you a general Idea as to when the block/heads were manufactured.

There is no tag on the engine, the water pump inlet is on the Driver's side and the oil dipstick port is on the timing chain cover (which looks like it may have been replaced).

I'll obtain the casting number when I get the car jacked up. Perhaps that will satisfy my curiosity.

FWIW, the frame, front end (Disc brakes), steering box, suspension, engine, trans, driveshaft and rear end were transplanted from whatever (supposedly a Torino) to a 1933 REO Roadster/Convertible.

Certainly no Rat Rod but not Barret-Jackson stuff either, someone spent a lot of money to put this car together.

Your help and any other additional info is appreciated.

Get the date code as well as the block casting number. Only that will tell you exactly when the block was cast. This is the number/letter/number combo that looks like it's on a screwed tag on the block near the casting numbers. The head's date codes are inside the valve covers, next to the cover rail.
