I have a 73 mav and the rear axle is not centered in the car from side to side. Has anyone seen this problem and know how to fix?

Mine's not centered either. It's offset to the passenger side by about a half to 3/4 inch. Not the only Ford I've had either with the same offset. My 89 Ranger is as well, as was my 68 Merc Monterey.

How exactly did you determine that it is not "centered" ? What points of reference are you using? May have some bearing on whats wrong..or not wrong..

What are you calling side to side? Left side/right side? Sticks out farther on one side from the leaf spring than the other? Closer to the door on one side than the door on the other side? You got to remember they didn't have robots putting these cars together...they had a guy on one side and a guy on the other side and they couldn't see what the other guy was seeing.

some times people replace the rear quarter panels and do a bad job at lining things up that can make your rear look off center

Simple, you can measure the distance to the fender lips. ;)This gets easier the wider the wheels and tires. Also makes clearance here more critical. If you're running skinny tires and wheels, don't worry about it.

The rear quarters on mine are original and undamaged. As were the ones on my 68 Merc and 89 Ranger
