the same thing happen to me! i forgot my car on the back yard for couple year I lost 2 year on my car but now Im gonna get my car painted this summer i promise
I'm collecting parts for my Comet,it still runs/drives but I don't want to tear it apart until I can get the paint/bodywork/interior done all together. At least now I've got it out of the weather. The roller 302/c4 combo is pretty tight w/ only around 10k on their rebuilds(shame for the c4-I'm swapping it over to a T5)and I've got new rear leafs and some discs waiting for the front. Raising 3 daughters and bunches of bills pretty much means workworkwork, and no time/little money right now.But I've still managed to collect the following; complete LDO bucket seat interior-to be recovered in black floorshift column NOS left quarter nice black dashpad NOS front valence same as NOS rear valence 3.55 gear sport wheel rust free hood " " doors " " fenders sport mirrors Grabber spoiler set of manual pedals perfect grill nice set of '63-67 style Merc dogpans rear window weatherstrip a new gas tank Of course I still need stuff; all new weatherstrip for everything except rear window A T5 & all it's related hardware new headliner new carpet bumpers rechromed the $$ for the paint/bodywork the time to assemble all this junk. I'm going to be paying off about 90% of my stuff in 3 years, maybe after that I can slow down a bit & play with the Comet.
I frown on myself when I read an old post where I was on a project and see the date. It's like "I can't believe it's been 3 years since I said that, and I still havn't finished ". I have had to peck away at it cause when I tore into it life and it's problems were there. Honestly seems that when I used to smoke the devils green I would get more done cause I would go to the shop to smoke and hang out in there. Now I find myself playing on here and stareing out the back glass door at the shop . I have been working on the shop lately tho so I can be comfortable for when I get serious again, which will be real soon
those are the type of people are the one now that are wanting mavericks. lol! but you will be supprised how many people now will really like the car! shows the street anywhere it get attention! even my stock one! at one show i loved it when my car got 20xs the amount of attention then the totally restored 396 chevelle with flawless black paint! i don't think he was very happy that my crappy maverick got more attention then his $70k car! lol! given it wasn't a mustang but you get my point. at another show my white car won best muscle car (which i might ad has original paint from 1973 on it)! god did the camaro people that complain! maybe becuase there were like 10 of them there! lol!
I loved going to shows with my rusted out 72 comet. I got more poeple talking to me than the fully restored belairs and mustangs. These cars are alot of fun. When i took it to its first cruise in after i bought it, i was nervis. Wasnt sure what people would say about my rust bucket. But i couldent believe the atension it got.
One day in the past my dad and I were looking for a Mustang but we didn't find any Mustangs. I really wanted a Mustang. I asked my father if there is any other car like a Mustang? He said “yes! Well, it is also a ford. It’s called a Maverick!” He didn’t say anything about Mercury Comets. I started working in New Jersey, saved some money, and found this car by the apartment where I was living. I thought, “Well, it’s not a Maverick, but it sure looks similar!” So I bought it. I didn’t care about the money- I just really wanted the car! That is how I found my Comet!
Maybe it's not the way you want it now but just think when you can throw all that stuff at it in one shot it will be like opening up a whole whack of Christmas presents on Christmas morning and your 11 or 12 years old, yee-haw.
