Earlier this week I asked about Weather strips for my Mav. Mavman72 mentioned Steele Rubber Products, so I went on their web site and found a few seals. Not being sure what to order I called and ordered the Door, B-Pillar and the trunk seals. I already had a tube of 3M weather strip adhesive, (Very Important to have). Today I recieved the seals and they fit perfectly. All the locator pins lined up perfectly with the holes in the chassis. It took me 3 hours to install all 5 seals. The B-piller seals were identified Right and Left. So there wasn't any guessing at what fit where. I hope this helps someone in the future. Ken
Thats how it should be. Nice to have parts fit right. I wouldnt buy the AK ones again. Thanks for the info.
Thanks Ken for stepping up to the plate and being a guinea pig. Your actions made up my mind on which path to take when the day comes to buy weather stripping.
I picked up a set of the roof rail weatherstrip ... I was not impressed ... the rubber is way to delicate - tears way too easy. I installed the driver side and could not get my door to close properly due to the way they formed the end near the door latch. The factory one was hollow all the way through and then flattened down at the end. The repop had about 2 or 3 inches of solid rubber at the end and it could not compress to let the door close without slamming it.
I'm thinking about trying to find used W/S for the doors and just buy new for the front and back glass. New stuff is really expensive and I'm cheap
The front and rear gaskets I used, were made by Pilkington, I wonder if they could be purchased from another dealer?
I see where they MAKE glass. I can't imagine all these manufacturer's tripping over themselves to crank out Maverick weatherstrip. I still think only one place is making it.....and everybody else is labeling it as "theirs".
My understanding is that Steele is the manufacturer of most of the replacement rubber you buy.Be it for a Maverick or a Buick GS.They supply most of the aftermarket companies out there...including Daniel Carpenter. Ken...I am glad you found what you need and it worked well for you.
