I have a 1972 Ford Maverick 4 door. It has a 302 in it with a 2 barrel carb and the tag is gone. I am just hoping that maybe somebody has the same year car and might know which 2 barrel carb that I might have. Also, is it worth the switch to a Holley 500 carb?
What is the difference between the 2100 and the 2150? Mine does look just like that, except for the dashpot thing on the throttle linkeage side and the kickdown for the automatic transmission.
That's it. Mine has the same exact heater hose cover/retainer. Another question, what is the lower vacuum line hookup at the front of the carb, off from the choke side of the carburetor hookup to? I have a chrome air cleaner on that doesnt have any vacuum line hookups to it like the factory one used to and I am wondering if that one was supposed to hook up to it?
holley 500 will use more fuel than what you have, holley 350 would be a better choice if you're staying 2 barrel.
The Holley 500 will also give it about a 15-20 hp boost over the stock carb. Great low budget alternative to a 4 bbl swap. It will bolt in place with only a minor reroute of the fuel line to make.
I figured that a Holley 500 would use more fuel. I really wanting to know if it made enough extra power to justify it. Now the Holley 350, does it make much more power over the Motorcraft carb that is on it?
The Holley 500 is a performance carb and is usually jetted about 5 jet sizes larger than you need. Other than that it is a fine carb.
Well that's good to know. Thanks for the info guys. I am probably going to try to find a Holley 500 eventually. I still have a lot of other things to do to the car though before I get too involved in getting more power out of it. It really needs some attention to suspension and steering before I throw more power at it.
Swapping to a 4 barrel will give better gas mileage, as long as you keep your foot out of it, and perform better. I had a Holley 500 back in the 70's and I smelled gas all the time. The venturi are too big to drive on the street . The Holley 500 was designed to run in a class where you had to run 2 barrel carburetor.
You didn't have it tuned to your motor then. I've used the 500 on a 69 302 in a van, a mild 390 build as the middle carb in a sixpack, another mild 390 (68 Merc Monterey) and a 77 F100 with a stock 400. Worked fine on all four with minimal tuning. The mileage on the 69 Van actually improved some. A 500 is exactly half a 750 Double Pumper.
