I was considering puttinga mild nitrous setup on my maverick. I havea stock 302 with a 4bbl and a holley 600cfm. Was thinking of doing like a sneaky pete which is about a 35 shot how much shot should i stay around on a 4bbl stock set up??
I have a Power shot system on my 460 truck. It's good for 125 hp and in the instructions it says " For use on stock internal engines". That's assuming that your engine is in realitively good shape.
ive ran a 150 shot on stock 302s with no problems. the trick with nitrous is to make shure you dont detinate. retard the timeing 2 degrees for every 50hp of nitrous used and use the high octane fuel and a bottle of octane booster wont hurt to use also.
Hi, guys!.How i can warm my botlle NOS? I am have proble with the gas pressure. When is cold, the pressure is very low.
Sneaky pete has no use on the street. Its used for making up a 1/10 to 3/10ths of a second lost time in the quarter mile. Thats why sneaky pete doesnt mix fuel in with it, its vapor only, and not intended for constant street use. Personally I will never run nos on a ford without having the heads o-ringed first. Its just to easy to keep adding more NOS pretty soon what started out at 50hp shots ended up with 300 shots and blown head gaskets. but as some mentioned you should be ok for something in the 100hp range assuming its a real system and not the sneaky pete. What he said.Go to a heat range or two colder plug when you spray it,nitrous likes to burn the ends off of hotter plugs.Check your plugs after a few passes,if you see little bitty bits of what looks like silver paint on them, that's the top of your pistons being melted. You're either timed too high or running too lean.I'd run a bit more carb than what I would normally need to avoid a lean condition. And DO NOT try & give it more timing than what's required, too much timing=detonation=blown head gaskets. If you discover you like spray, you should invest in a set of head studs to replace the bolts,a little more clamping force to hold it all down. You probably don't need 110 octane,93-94 should be fine, but don't try & spray it w/87 octane.Have fun,but beware....it's very addictive.
NOS sells a bottle heater which is a thermal blanket of sorts.. check out summit racing for one, or holley.com and go to NOS. It'll keep it in the 900psi range for optimal flow. Please dont use an open flame like so many people do.
Hot Rod (or CC or whoever it was) did a test on a Mopar 318 to see how much N2O it would handle. Stock engine. I think they got it up to 350 HP before any running problems were encountered. Even then it was ignition issues. Wouldn't light the plugs with that much cylinder pressure. If you stay real conservative, it'll last a while. Get greedy (which is REAL easy!) and you better have a tow truck and another short block ready. Race gas, highest octane you can get, retard the timing and keep a separate fuel system for fuel enrichment, including it's own fuel pump, etc...is probably the best way to go based on what I have seen. I've never used the stuff so I don't know. Never needed to.
I installed this one last month. http://www.atlanticspeed.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=3545&idcategory=0 It controls the temp quite well. I also slapped on a blanket to stabilize the temp even more. Just keep in mind, they are power hungry (about 12+ amps). I hook it to the battery charger and let it power it for 1/2 hour or so before making the rig power it (you can even gently use a heat gun for a head start). I tapped power from the amplifier hot cable and installed a cig socket so I can take it in and out and power other goodies from the trunk as well (ie: air pumps, coffee makers, drink mixers, etc, etc)
