today was my first day to take the car for a spin with headers, open headers. i could not shift to 2nd or low gears, it would not move, i have the factory 3 speed on the floor.. also i removed the linkage which attatches to the steering column to the trans. what is that linkage for? i think it has something to do with why my key sometimes gets locked in the ignition. some one please clarify with me whats happening. thank you

To my knowledge, the only reason for the column linkage would be the fact that the floor shift was an option. I would assume that the linkage to the column shift would have been installed in every car.
I have removed mine this year, so I hope i don't have issues too.

As for the shifting... not sure what the problem would be, maybe the linkage is hung up on the header or something like that.

yes, i found why it wasn't shifting, it was getting hung up on the firewall. i found out the linkage is for a key ignition lock sort of thing. not sure what the correct terms are.
