When i first start the car the oil pressure is fine, when it gets warmed up and the oil pressure drops to practically nothing. Its the sunpro oil pressure guage. I looked at the plastic tube and there are air bubbles in it, is that normal? also where the adapter connects to the motor it is leaking oil, could this be the cause of low oil pressure? how do i fix it? thanks
Not sure if that's the problem or not, but you might as well fix it and rule that out as a possibility. try some teflon tape around the fitting. If that's not it, it could be your oil pressure guage. After that I'd think you need to check the oil pump.
the bubbles are normal on the plastic oil lines. you should swap it out for a copper line. the plastic ones get brittle and brake. then you have a masive oil leak, usualy into the inside of the car. you have a internal problem in your motor. there mabe something cloging the oil pick up screen. you might have a bearing that has pushed out or is worn out.
im pretty sure its not the oil filter, because we have replaced it and it stayed the same, but you never know. Would there be anyother signs that point to a pushed or worn bearing? I will check the screen and oil pump thanks.
Milage on the engine? Could be just too old and loose to keep good pressure... In which case the proper method of repair is put in some 20w50 and beat the hell out of the engine untill it finally dies and you have no choice but to pull and rebuild
Well I have used 3qts of 10w30 and 1 qt 0f 90 weight gear oil. sure makes for good oil pressure and the motor never blew up in my bro's stock car.
My Dad had a 1978 Ford pickup with a 351W that had moderate oil pressure and dropped terrible (2-5psi) after it warmed up. We put Castrol GTX 20W50 in that truck and ran the hell out of it for many years. Dad towed a 23 foot camper from maryland to Florida and back (put the title in the glove box) with that low oil pressure, drove the truck for several years after that, sold it to my uncles friend, he drove it for over a year, and that person sold it back to my cousin and she and her BF drove that truck until it fell apart and the engine was still running and never had a valve tapping. The oil pressure would drop to around 8-9 pound at highway speed and when you cam to a stop with the truck in drive it dropped litteraly to where the needle on the gauge touched "0" if you put it in neutral and let it idle up a little it would come up to about 3-5 pounds. It did the same thing with the stock electric gauge and with a good quality manual gauge that we installed. BTW take heed to replacing that plastic line. I have heard bad things about those lines getting brittle and snapping or getting a hole in them and spraying oil all over the interior and the driver and passenger and making just a general mess inside the car/truck on the carpet and the people riding in the vehicle at the time
