I am still not getting things to lign up. I need pics of the engine front from a motor that has AC and PS. I am ready to just replace everything from the front of this motor .

That would be the smog pump.

Do I need it? I'm surprised this Maverick was up to date on texas inspection when I got it in February. The front brakes were wasted, the rear brakes leaked fluid, the E-brakes are not functioning, power stering hoses were ruptered, no flexytube from exhaust manifold to air breather, sparkplugs were hand tightend, it had swiss cheese muffler, and now no smog pump. And this Maverick has minimal to no rust on the body and the engine only has 49,000 miles.

No you dont necissarily need it. If not properly maintained a smog pump can be a real power killer. But on the other hand many areas require you to have one if your car came equiped with one so it is about sixes. One of the things I am running into more and more is the apparent lack of knowledge the young technitions have on these older cars, and the smog equipment can get missed or forgotten about more and more than anyone wants to admit.

Then I will remove the bracet and such to make it look as if nothing belongs there or nothing is missing. Thanks, I'm not familiar with mid to late 70s Fords. To begin with I am not a mechanic, I learn what I own and most of what I have owned in the past has been FE engines from the 60s and GM SB and BB V8s from early 70s. This is my first Ford straight6 I have owned and so far I love it. To begin with stock parts are so cheap and reliable, parts are not so hard to replace, and it is so simple straight to the point.

One of the problems I am having is finding a used double headers for a 1976 4dr Maverick 250 engine. Do they even make them without having to modify? I do not want to convert to a 2barrel until i find the headers.

I am also having problems with transmission now, I still havent found out what transmission came for this car. When I floor the peddal, The engine revs to high RPMs but the transmission slips and doesn't grab a gear. On one of the FE equipped Mercury that I owned with a C6 it was only the Modulator. Does my Maverick's transmission have one of those?

I know my car has a 250 straight6, What i don't know is what my Transmission, Rear Axle, and gas tank size this car is equiped with. Everything looks original, no mods on anything.

I am almost positive it has a C4, MY transmission was doing the same thing the other day. It ended up that the vacuum line on the transmission had fallen off somehow. It also does the same thing if you are low on fluid.

I still haven't jacked up the car high enough to fit under it but that is a good start for me. I have checked the fluid and its good, i was going to drain some out and add a LUCAS reconditioner just in case seals had gone dry. Thanks for the info, now I can look for info on C4 traansmissions.

I've seen both those sites and didn't find anything specifically for a 1976 maverick 4dr. I believe the ones on clifford's site either the starter is in the way or the spring & shock housing is in the way. the redirect classicinlines from the fordsix website has some sweet looking intakes. Too bad they won't bolt on to the stock head. The only mods i want to do to my stock 250 is just 2barrel carb setup and headers. I wouldn't mind changing the intake completely to one for a 2barrel setup as long as it bolts on to my stock heads. If I find one that is just for 2barrel would be sweet, i'd rather use that one rather than the adapter that bolts on to the stock intake. Didn't aftermarket parts specifically for the 1976 maverick come out in the 70s? Does anyone have any for sell? Used aftermarket parts from the 70s. Offy used to come out with some sweet setups for FORD.

have you considered a header for a six -- mustang. Mustang parts for the steering and brakes are the same from 68-73. maybe the header also. Being a 4 door shouldn't entre the equasion as the header only comes as far as the torque box. Hope this helps. :tiphat:

If someone mentions that they have used that specific header with no problems on a 76 4dr maverick, i would buy it. I just don't want to be buying and removing parts then to find out it doesnt work. Thanks for the info, i will search and see if someone has used one. thanks
