I am wondering if anyone has had experience getting original-style seat covers custom made. I found a company that will make them from "original materials". http://www.autoupholsterykit.com/ They seem to do nice work from what can be seen on their website. The price to do all the seats will be about $1000. AutoKrafters has seat foam for the front seats for about $130 per seat. I am about to put almost as much money into the seats as I have in the whole car! I definitely want to keep the original look...no velour, or anything like that. Any thoughts, experiences, referrals, or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Those look like Grabber buckets. I also like those blacked out deluxe door panels. I would think a local upholstery shop could do a pretty decent job for $600 ... I had one bucket done on a 73 style bucket and it was $165 ...

Also - I don't see it on their website but pretty sure these guys make Maverick foam for alot cheaper

Well the good news is the buckets in your car are the highly sought after ones. They are original. The bad news is, upholstery work is expensive. I do a bit of my own and also have a local guy do the hard stuff. It aint cheap. Check around your area, go into a fabric store and ask for info on upholsterers. You just might luck out and find someone who moonlights with it. Good Luck!

Yes, they are original for the Maverick. Craig Selvey's yellow car had a set. Guess we just dont see enough of them around anymore. Seems like most mav/comets came with bench seats. I will guess on this one but I think they were available from 71-74 on Mav/Comets. My 70 Cyclone Spoiler has a set too. Ford used them in several cars.

Those are the same seats that I have in my car. They were available in '71-'73 Mavericks AND Mustangs. Although not as comfortable and supportive as modern seats, they look very good and fit just right in '71-'74 Mavericks and Comets...

I still beleive that those are mach 1 and rustange, and the maverick and pinto were the same witch are not quite that high like 6-7 inches shorter and about 2-3 inches wider at top......

There are the right seats of for that year car! I have a set of them in my car. I used 1970 Mach 1 deluxe covers on mine they fit perfect.

If the Mustang covers would fit I would like to use them. I could save a bunch of money and have something that looks decent. Only bad thing is the existing covers on the back seat wouldn't match. The Mustang rear bench has got to be different, doesn't it? Believe it or not (from the photo), the back seat is in almost perfect shape except for one short split on a seam that I might be able to have repaired. Thanks for all the thoughts and ideas.

Well, I believe that there are Mustang ones that are the same pattern as the ones you have on the Maverick buckets right now. So just find that set of seat covers, and you'll be set. :)

yeah I think the 71 pattern off a stang would be the same. The pair I have in my cyclone are the same material, but the seams in the center run parallel with me as I sit. If you snoop around at mustang supply houses try and look 70-71 samples to see if the same.

The mustang covers don't have the Emblem on the back of the seat in the middle but it fits on the frame. It was pretty easy to do. Just make sure you have a good Hog ring tool. As far as the back seat I don't think a 70 seat cover will fit? It has a larger hump in the center of it than a Mav. I have a pic of one of my seats covered. I will post it after I put it on my site.
