Hi everyone...long time no talk...spring again and time to have fun with the toys! During my "hibernation" I've managed to get a hold on 2 351 cleveland both 4v, one 4 bolt main, 3 set of heads,1 open chamber small valves 2.05 / 1.65, the second open chamber 2.19 / 1.71 and the third set closed chamber 2.19 / 1.71...to of them are cobra jet heads by the numbers...
I wold love to know if a member work out a great receipe with a cleveland and if some advice to help out would greatly be appreciate. Thanks in advance... Jean

Hi Jean, my Cobra Jet Cleveland is in the process of being built right now. It is a 4 bolt main block out of a 72 Gran Torino Sport. So far the block has been decked, line bored and bored .030 over. It is using a 393 Scat stroker crank, forged KB dished pistons on 6 inch Chevy rods. Using my original 2.19/1.71 open heads, we were looking at 9:1 compression. I have since bought a set of 2.19/1.71 closed chamber heads and the final compression will be 10:1. I haven't chosen a cam yet but have been talking to Comp Cams about a choice. It will be running a Weiand tunnal ram manifold using a pair of 450 Holleys mounted sideways.

Good luck with your build. :thumbs2:

If you like your Cleveland wild, 261/271 Comp solid roller on 106 ICL...
Got that from a Cleveland guru.
It needs closed chambers and minimum 11:1 compression.

    My own Cleveland Question

My machine shop suggested that I would benifit by changing over to roller rockers for my engine. Without getting into the added expense of milling the pedestals off and converting to stud mounted rockers, what are any sources for a direct replacement, pedestal mounted roller rocker? They certainly would bolt down to the pedestal with a torque value like a stock stamped rocker, but are there any available that are adjustable, for instance, at the pushrod?

I went to your link, found some pedestal roller rockers and emailed Tim some questions that I expected for him to answer at his leisure. Within 10 minutes he called me in PA., on his dime, to answer all of my questions.

    That's customer service :thumbs2:

    Cleveland

Have had Clevelands and Windsors in Rancheros and in my opinion the Cleveland is a big slow winding PIG engine compared to the Windsor.
The Cleveland is better at the scrap yard sale.

The Windsor gets much better mileage.

Sounds like you had a 351m, not 351c.
The M is a pig, the C is a monster.

No, it was a 351C, pure bacon! As a matter of fact I have had several Cs.

I remember when they brought out that engine.

I have had several 351c engines. None were "pigs".
    I even had a 351c 2v in a 71 Ranchero. No pig.

Ahh those cleveland you love them or you hate them...

I know i love them, had one midly built up many years ago in a mach 1 1970
and i can wait to get the same feeling again....

But most important first question, i've read on this forum a few month ago that the cleveland sit in the mav without any surgery...fact or dream???
I do have the 4v manifold if no headers fit in...
Next week, i will be with the machine shop, a great old man with tons of knowledge with these baby...I'll be able to ask him a few questions and share it with the interested ones... Later...Jean
