my second maverick is my considered a parts car but i cant help but wonder what i could accomplish if i left the inside striped down repared the suspension, fixed the body and put a 4bbl 302 under the hood. as light as the car is it would make a good no frills street machine, any ideas, the body isnt too far gone, nothin a little welding and bondo wouldnt take care of. i will try and post some pics of it when i come back from spring break. its a 72, i dont have a title for it but my dad told me i can take the serial number to the DMV and the could get me the title for it.
i would hate to see it go to waste and rot away, keeping it mostly stock and a bare interior would also cut some of the cost. a stock 302 should be enough muscle assuming i can get a title for it.
Sounds cool but Im not sure how light they are compared to todays cars. I think each door weights as much as one 302
they are actually very light cars specially the earlier years, the later years with 500 pound bumpers where bit heavier
another thing to consider, put as much together as possible and get the title. then sell it for money to invest in your keeper mav. if you are honest and up front, someone looking for a mav to build would be able to get a good deal on a car to build and you would have some cash to spend on yours. as much as i hated selling the wifes cougar, that made a big difference on where the grabber is today.... also i have seen many not as nice mavs for sale beyond what they are worth that have sold....
Our mavericks are surprising light, i compared it to my Hyundai (which is a tiny car) and the maverick isnt really that much heavier, even with the 302
i plan on keeping it, i was going to get my brothers 280z as a perfomance car but since he's giving the 280 to my mom i wanted to see if i could do somthing off the wall with the other maverick i have, i already have a 302 i just need to have it checked out to make sure its not cracked or anything like that. my driver maverick will remain stock.
