This was the day I was brought home from the hospital as a new born, in my dad's '71 Comet GT. What more can I say.

    hotrod_403335.jpg

By that point it already had a pretty healthy 306 under the hood. When they were getting ready to leave the hospital, a nurse was standing there with my mom outside of the hospital waiting on my dad to go get the car. She said when he came rumbling around, the nurse was like "You're getting in THAT!?" :rofl2:

reading this and seeing people say they have owned their cars for decades is just amazing. Everytime my dad and i talk about my comet, that ive only had for about 11 months. Hes always been a car guy, and i wouldnt even have this car without him or his stories. but he always says, before i got it mavericks and comets (In his mind) were ugly and cheap economic cars. now, he loves it. says every line on the car is beautiful. Makes me call it "our car" When im the one with $2,600 and my whole summer even winter into it lol.
Being only 16, 15 when i got it, its a lot of money. hard to stick with a big project like that, but everytime i sit in it, look at it, browes around on here, even think of how much power shes ganna have, theres no regrets and never will be.
Never would have made it this far or nearly this far without everyone on this board answering sometimes the stupidest questions :) thanks to all

The mav came first body wise. comets were more fairlane like.

OK now to age myself, when smokey and the bandit was big and everyone had new superchickens my uncle had a 70 mav with 302 and 15" rims that he bought used (he was a teen at the time) constantly smacking those "high dollar" cars down. in 87 my grandfather gave me his 73 302 four door LDO mustard nasty brown yellow. yeah a lot of guys made fun of it, but it was mine and ran. I had big plans (TJ taxi style). in 88 the wife asked my what my dream car was, i answered red grabber next day she found one in the parking lot for sale for the amount i had in the bank. we just happened to be on the market for a second car. unfortunately two weeks later she squeezed the four door between a brick wall and a tree...... However i have had the grabber ever since and most of that time it was my primary vehicle.as i have stated before, my son will have to keep my ashes in the trunk if he wants the car...... i have owned one other mav that i only sold in order to pay the fixit ticket that i got californicated with..... and just recently i was lucky enough to add the comet. if it didnt get so nasty here id drive the grabber year round still.

1976 Pinto Wagon (STILL under construction)
I'm going to be an outsider here, but let me say that I >completely< understand the point you guys are making. When I bought a car last year, I was looking for one of two cars - a Maverick, or a Pinto. I had grown up with both, my Dad driving a '70 Grabber from off the lot new until 1981 (when he traded it for a Chevy Citation....:rofl2:), and my Grandmother buying me a new '77 Pinto hatchback while in high school. You know, back then, a new car was a new car, I did not care!! I also inherited my Grandfather's (same couple) '79 Pinto wagon in 1982, so....

....the Pinto won. I bought a '76 wagon last year. I am proud to say that your member BLUGENE has been an INCREDIBLE help to me, spending a lot of time assisting me, from remmoving my gas tank to recently tearing off my front end suspension for restoration. I love this little car....

...like you guys love your Mavericks. Pintos are by far more maligned, but I just as much love folks' reactions when I tell them I am restoring a '76 Pinto.

"Why?" they ask. My answer: "For just that reason - because you asked".
Like Mavericks, they are few and far between. Like Mavericks, they were never "popular". And most importantly, like Mavericks, they are not Mustangs, Camaros, Tri-fives, Chevelles, Corvettes, Superbees, and others that ALAYS dominate car shows. Give me something DIFFERENT!

I will say this for you guys:

    1) Your group here is one of the most cooperative, supportive, fanatic and knowledgeable I have ever seen on the 'net. You should be proud; it really makes ME want to own one. The Pinto support group pales by comparison.

    2) You are fortunate to have a mid-size body on which SO many parts can be easily applied. Because Pintos are so "loosely" followed, there is not much out there, and we have to rely heavily on junkyard finds and creative mods to really get somewhere.

    3) I6 or V8 - your cars accept both, easily. Aside from the lowly 2.3L and 2.8 V6, we have to do a LOT of massaging to get performance (turbo 4 or V8).

Cheers to this group, and THANKS for hearing me. I admire this site greatly.

    Chris

About 3 months for me, but I have always been a Maverick fan. It was one of the first cars that we looked at when I was 15 and shopping for a car. I was going to buy a white, 2 dr 302 maverick till we looked at a 1970 Ford Galaxy 500 Custom fastback with 100k on it. Well, my $400 went to the Galaxy with the 390 in it. But I always wanted a Maverick and 3 months ago acquired one. I have already put a lot of hours into the 4dr v8 mav and have enjoyed just about every minute of it. Here is what she is looking like as of now. [IMG]
I love the car because it is different and a lot of the punks nowdays have no idea what a Ford Maverick is.
