I have a chance to pick up a back glass to have as a spare for my 70 2 door and the question of how to safely package the glass for shipping has come up. The seller has never shipped glass before and wants to use UPS.

Any suggestions to get the glass packaged for a safe safely shipping 125 miles? :)

I ordered a windshield from the local Glass Doctor. The packaging it came in would not protect it for UPS shipping. Basically just a card board envelope.

I'd spend a half day and save a few bucks by going after it.:drive:

I have shipped a windshield to PA and I took a lot of work to pack it, I first put a good layer of packing peanuts down then wrapped glass in carboard to conform to its shape then another good layer of packing peanuts. Them I made an even bigger box and put a good layer of packing peanuts and put smaller box in it and filled with more packing peanuts.

Made it safely but cost a bunch to ship

125 miles. cost less to drive there than it would to package and ship plus some1s time to do all the packing. drive their and take lots pillows, blankets to put around the glass. A friend did this and had no problems. It was mostly hwy driving for him also. good luck:drive:

I have to add - new glass is pretty forgiving as it stays a bit flexible. Old glass breaks just from looking at it the wrong way sometimes

    :hmmm:

The "old" part is what really was on my mind when I ask the question. This one for sale is from a 70 so it don't get any older than that.

I have received glass at work. The way it is shipped in is they use spray foam like the kind for house insulation. Put the glass in a plastic bag. Put down a layer of foam on the bottom. After that sets up foam it from the sides and the ends. It holds pretty good. Good luck ... Bob
