Hey guys been talking a few days with the guys that are making the in dash conversion tachs for the early mustang. Here's the first photoshop prototype. Going to try and get the fuel guage in somehow.

now if we could work the fuel gauge in at the bottom where those dummy lights are up side down just to fallow the flow of every thing it be extremely cool. what do you say?:hmmm: but its really nice seeing that:thumbs2:

Cool idea. Maybe if you went with single digits and squeezed them a little closer together you could get an 8k tach in there.

Thanks for the input guys. That's why I wanted to post pics. They are trying to make it a plug and play tach. My first thought was to do away with the idiot lights, I know most people use other forms of gauges for these. I think it needs to be 8000 rpm also. Please keep the coments coming.

I think the tach numbers need to go around as far as the speed odometer does. That way it would be able to go up to 8k, be easier to read quickly and when banging gears.
Do away with the idiot lights and just put the fuel gauge at the bottom.
If they made them things plug and play I bet they could sell a bunch of them things to the Mustang crowds. Then move right over and make them for us.

They already make them for Mustangs. The problem we have is our gauge housing on our cars has very limited space. The fuel gauge takes up all the space behind the face plate. I have been searching for a smaller fuel gauge in the ford family. I'm mailing them my guage housing today so they can start working on them. They have only seen pics of the housing. I'm forwarding all the ideas I get from you guys to them. Maybe I need to do a poll to see what is more important, idiot lights or fuel gauge.I only want fuel guage and turn signals. I have to buy 5 of them for them to be able to do it. Thanks for the input.

You really need to retain the brake light as well.

I like how the tach matches the speedo, etc ... That being said, if the tach was installed in the silver part of the cluster gauge, the stock positions on everthing else could be retained and the tach could have a wider sweep and 8000 rpms ... Maybe a programmable shift light could be worked in next to the fuel gauge, too.

I really like the way it looks in the pic! (y)
Here's an idea. Keep the temp, oil, alt, and brakes, but make them skinnier (retaining the same font, but smaller). This would leave some room in the bottom for a fuel gauge that we be an invert of the stock gauge. Maybe you could move the turn indicators to the silver part of the gauge for more room. Just some ideas...
I really like it and depending on the price, I may be in for some of these if they get made.

Your right Craig, that's why they want to try and keep everything in that space. The idea is to install the piece and run the 3 wires for the tach. Use the factory wiring for everything else. I'm mailing them my cluster today, should know more once they get to working on it.

They just did that as a first photo shop. Doing 8000 rpm will not be a problem. Keep the ideas coming. Thanks guys.

Jamie, your thread from a while back is what got me trying to do this. Have you made any progress?
