Ok gentlemen, I still have a chance to buy a 69.5 Maverick in "little old lady" condition. I would like to get it and fix it up for my youngest son to drive. He turns 16 in about 1.5 years so I have time to do it up nice. But I can't seem to talk him into a Maverick. He thinks they are OK but wants a Mustang like his brother drives. His is a 2000 Mustang. I have pointed out that his brother has counted 7 other Mustangs at school and a Maverick would be one of a kind in the parking lot. I told him he wouldn't pass other Mavericks on the road like his brother passes Mustangs. I told him I would update the car to make it safe and reliable for him to drive. How do I convince him that a 69 Maverick would be a much "cooler" car than a late model Mustang? When it comes to cars my boys usually listen to me. Anyone have any ideas I can throw at him? Thanks! Ed
Bring him to this board, sit down with him, and look at all the different Mavericks and Comets that are here. Show him all the cool things that can be done with a Maverick, maybe look at some videos than at least he will have some idea.
Well, I have sent him a few pictures of the Mavericks on here. I picked out ones that are a little more Hot Rod than stock. He tends to be a little wild with his style, girls don't seem to be a problem for him and has an above average IQ. But I think the girl angle might work. I didn't think about trying that. That might actually work! Thanks!!!
You need to find someone with a nice Maverick and let them take him for a ride. When they stop at a store, a Wendy's, etc., he will be charged up with all the comments from different people who see the car. Riding in a cool car and hearing strangers talk about it is the best way to convince yourself that you need one just like it.
Get him a Mustang. First car - chances are it's going to get flogged out and wrecked up. I'd rather see it happen to a dime a dozen Mustang then a Maverick. JMO...
I agree on this also. Buy the maverick anyways and work on it if youc an afford it, but I'd get him the mustang. First cars are a learning experience. And when/if he tears that up, he'll appreciate the maverick more
If he is paying for it...let him get the mustang...If you are paying for it to "give" to him when its done.He should be happy with what you give him...period.If he aint...let him walk and earn his own wheels.Buy the mav for yourself.
thats my thinking with the LX, body parts are plentiful in the boneyards. He wants paint and a V8, I told him to drive it until he graduates, then we shall see. :Handshake
Ed I buy a yugo for his first car while you are building the maverick .. That way he will realy love the mav when you are finish with it ..
I say let him buy what ever he wants better if with his own money, and you should buy that mav fix it up and keep it for your self or if he changes his mind later you give it or sell it to him! I would never let my kid drive a nice Maverick unless he had at least 3 years exp with no major accidents
Excellent point! My older son has smashed up his Mustang 3 times in less than 2 years. None of them his fault, hydroplane into a curb, woman pullout in front of him, hit and run driver. But the Mustang was in excellent shape when I bought it. It's rough now. I would cry if I saw that Maverick wrecked! I think you all are right. He needs the dime a dozen Mustang first to learn on. I think I'll buy the Maverick and rebuild it stock for myself to drive to work each day. Thanks everyone! Ed
