    Hi,
For those of you who have done the EFI swap... what did you do with the belt system? The EFI is serpentine belt, which i prefer, but the old power steering pump is old style belt.

How did you guys accomplish this?

the fuel injection is not dependent on the belt set up. the water pump is going to be your bigest factor on what you use. if you use the serpentine set up your going to need to have the reverse rotation water pump.

ya, I have the water pump from the EFI engine too.. I got everything for it except an altenator really, but the exising power steering pump doesn't have the serpentine pully on it. Just wondering if I could somehow change that pully.

I would llike to keep the serpentine belt system for its better performance and it looks nicer.

Anyone tried to modify a power steering pump?

IIRC, There were some hybrid crank pulleys that had both serpentine and V belt grooves in them. The 85 T Bird that I pulled my engine from used a serpentine belt on the A/C, standard rotation water pump, and alternator. The Power steering was v belt. It didn't use an reversing idler, but the flat belt mounted just like a v belt. Maybe the water pump was a v belt, too, but I think it was a flat belt. My memory is foggy on it right now, but try to find a 85 T bird somewhere and look at the pulleys. This is a throttle body injection, so it would probably be different than a direct port injection. As for hoses, the T Bird pump on mine has the large hose end. I bought a flex hose with the proper size end to fit the pump and the radiator. As a matter of fact, you can get a sleeve to reduce the hose end size if you need to, I had to reduce mine down 1/4" when I had the 6 cyl radiator, but it fit fine without the reducer on the V8 radiator...

you should be able to use the new p/s pump. you just need to take the pressure hose for the new pump and the old mav pressure hose to a indutrial hose place and they can make you the correct hose. most air conditioning shops can do this also.

i used the serptine pump. used the stock maverick hoses with an adapter at the pump on the pressure side.

my dilema is that i wanna run a serp setup with all the accessories in their factory location. most setups that i could use form donor cars puts the alternator on the driver's side and i dont want that. that's why im gonna wait untill i engine swap then work out a setup with some of the pullies that i have.

ya, looks like we are going to get the power steering pump and altenator off a mustang 5l and just use the serpentine setup. will be better for the extra HP too.

Will probably go with an electric fan too.

Thanks for all the info guys and good luck with your projects.

Why dont you get a setup from a t-bird? or a mustang? Mine is from an 87 and the alternator is on the passenger side. You can either use a smog pump eliminator kit or figure out the correct length to bypass the smog pump and leave it off

not my photo but it shows where the alternator is the other option puts the AC compressor where the power steering pump is sitting and lowers the power steering pump almost to stock level

well, the car is finished and on the road now.
The alternator and power steering pump are on the driver side of the car.
The transmission fit in the tunnel, with PLENTY of space to spare.
The original drive shaft and rear end are still in place and fit perfectly to the new driveline.
The ECC is mounted on the passenger side between the dash and heater box.
