Now after doing research on the internet it sounds like it could be the lifters, but tonight I got in it to go to work and the ticking was very loud, I turned the car off and took my wifes Jeep to work instead. So I guess my question is now, how could it go from slight ticking for a few weeks then go away after warming up to very loud ticking so quickly and is this major work that will have to be done? I am not a mechanic at all so I am very scared and confused. Again it only has 63,000 original miles on it and I have put about 27,000 of those 63,000 myself in the last 5 years. Hi Eeveryone, New to site, proud owner of 3rd Mavrick since 1980. I have a 73 Mavrick now with 63,000 original miles. I have a slight tick when I start it and it goes away after a few minutes of driving. If by chance my oil pump is going bad, does anybody know how tuff or expensive this would be to replace the oil pump. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ragar
Welcome to the board! To get the basic out of the way, what engine? Have you changed the oil and filter? Do you have a mechanical oil pressure gauge... readings?
Yes, I just had the oil changed about a week agao. I noticed this ticking about a month ago, I just put some engine oil treatment in it two days ago, it seems to help a little. I have a in line 6cyl, 250.
