The pedal assembly is on the way. I am installing a toploader 4-Speed and the "now" the right length 9" rear. It has a tracktion lok with 3.70 gears. I have all the other parts including scatter shield and clutch from Anderson Ford Motorsport (10.5 inch clutch) The 302 probably makes 230-250 Hp at the wheels so it should be fun. I am converting to a cable clutch that is the onely thing we are not sure of since we will have to use a mustang conversion kit and modify it for the Maverick.
If any one can think of anything I might need to know I would love to hear it. Thanks.

Good luck with the swap. I am doing a T5 conversion in mine. Got everything related to the transmission including the modified bellhousing. I was originally planning to use a cable, but when I found a set of pedals, a V8 z-bar came with them, so I've decided to use it. The thing that I'm not looking forward to is getting the z-bar mounted in place. I don't have the ball or any hardware to mount the thing. Fortunately you wont have to worry about that with the cable. Fordmuscle.com was the place I found the most info about the cable swap. They have a good article on converting early fords to the cable if you haven't already seen it. You'll have a great setup!

I did an Auto to Stick swap over the summer. I had all the right parts and it was a bitch! I will never do it again. The next time I have to touch it I will do the cable conversion.

I have the frame side V8 z-Bar mount if you are interested. $25 shipped .... I also have the Assist Spring and Spring Keeper and the upper clutch rod if you need those as well. Everything for $50 shipped.

69Maverick ... I just did the swap ... Was pretty straight forward after all the parts are acquired ... what kind of issues did you have?

In my opinion, you guys will eventually learn, C4 is the way to go.

I'm certainly not saying I know it all, and I believe it's a stage you'll go through, but eventually, one day, you'll probably go back to the auto.

Good luck, I know it'll be fun (even if for just a while).

I dont see how you can use a clutch cable with a toploader. The cable set up is used on a T5. The T5 has a longer input shaft, therefore, the bell housing is deeper. The cable pulls the clutch fork, whereas the mechanical linkage pushes. Just wondering how your gonna do it.

In my opinion, manual is the only way to go. What fun is racing if all you have to do is push on the gas and let go of a button? Anybody can do that. That dont require much skill, just quick reflexes. :D

(Dont get bent out of shape auto guys, this is all in fun)

done the 3 speed-4 speed-5 speed thing. i don't have the knees or the reflexes for them any more.i now own two 5 speeds, one 3 speed and three autos. my 4 wheeler is an auto.
the 4 speed kept me in trouble ( with the law). 396, 4 speed 411 p-track. i was 20 yrs. old. it was my daily driver.
if you are building one to play with and not going to drive all the time it would be great. it would be interesting to know how many daily driver 4 speed/5 speed mav./comets we have. i think the 3 speeds are for nostalgic use only. j.m.o....frank... :bananaman :bananaman

Mavaholic- I have a scattershield that has toploader and T-5 bolt patterns. I hear someone makes a spacer plate for the longer shaft on the T-5/ Tremec. I will probably install a Tremec later.
Guys- since when is an auto tranny faster at the track? I'll give you the more consistant and cheaper consession but they have to give weight breaks to auto cars in class racing to keep them in competition with the manual cars. They do that because the autos are less efficiant. Plus for us small engine guys the extra gear keeps our peaky small blocks in their power band.
If I was bracket racing I'd go auto though.
