    Hello all,
With the help of some advice that Dave Boyer gave a guy about changing a heater core, I was able to remove the heater core/ac evaporator housing in my '72 Comet. I had already purchased a heater core from Napa and was ready to install. Upon removing the clips from the housing and separating the two halves, it became evident I had a few more problems. The core had obviously been leaking for a while judging by the heavy rust on the evaporator in side the heater core housing. Upon closer inspection there are cracks in the fiberglass housing at the corners probably from when my daughter overheated her the other night.
First question will avoid most subsequent questions....Can I buy the whole heater core/ AC assembly in the fiberglass housing ready to install?

If not then, where would I find this stuff? Can I high heat silicone the small cracks? Can I use high heat silicone to put the two halves back together? I'm on my way to the radiator shop to test the evaporator.

Any input, advice, suggestions.....I'd appreciate it. I'm getting close to "not liking" my Comet and I don't want to go there.

    Thanks a bunch, k

I doubt you find a NOS heater box anywhere, but I guess it's possible. Why not just seal up the cracks with new fiberglass, sand and then paint it? That way, you add strength back to the original housing. High temp silicone will fill the cracks, but doesn't add any thing to the case, so you could possibly keep cracking and loose a piece out of it. Why do you want to silicone the two halves together? Is the gasket torn or missing?

Thanks for the reply. After the effort to pull that box out of there, I wanted a quick fix to put it back...even if I had to pay the extra money. The gasket is not great but not really bad. It had been holding that water in there for quite sometime so it must have been working. Anybody know the best place to get a new evaporator?

The evap coils crosses over to a Mustang coil. Email Craig, he'll have a heater box for you.

    Evap Core

I have an evap core you can have for free. I need to take a pict of it to make sure it is the right one. I purchased a complete box assembly from one of our posters and the tube lengths were different than the ones on my 75, so I used my old evap core.

Let me know if I can help you, that is the Texas way.
