I'm new to the forum, so bear with me. My maverick journey started about 9 years ago with a 1974 6 cylinder mav. Since that time my mav has gained a 289 from a 66 mustang, and I just leaped for joy this past weekend when I obtained everything I needed to convert my mav to small bumpers! This project will take a year or so, cause I've got to build a garage first. I'm going to strip it down and take my time, possibly adding some more horsepower to the little windsor. During the past 9 years I also gained a 77 mav which I fixed up for my oldest daughter, and she drives it to work every day. It was a 6 banger also, but has grown to a stock 302 from a 69 ford fairlane. My latest addition to our mav family is a 71 302 plum purple mav which my youngest daughter will get to drive when she turns 17 (maybe). This car is the fastest of all, and I don't want to turn my teenage daughter loose with it just yet. I hope to post some pictures in the future, and am glad to be a part of the mav community. I guess you could call me a mav maniac! My dream is to find a grabber hood, and a grabber rear spoiler for my 74 restoration. If any of you guys know where I can find them, please let me know. I'm not an expert on mavs, but I can answer some questions about part swapping if anybody needs any help. Here are a few things I've discovered in 9 years of mavness: All glass is interchangeable for every year model and so are: All doors All hoods All fenders All grills All trunk lids (except some 4 door models have a different bend in the back) And I'm sure this is redundant, but a comet is a mav except for the hood, grill, and tail lights. I'm looking forward to corresponding with fellow mav/comet lovers.
aboard! Post some Pics when you get a chance. Your parts information although helpful leaves out some details. Not all door glass is interchangeable. There are different mounting hole spacings. Differences in doors as well. Early vs Late inside handle location provisions, textured vs smooth interior finish. Early doors were lighter as they did not have the internal crash bar. Hoods have different prop rod locations throughout the years. Slight differences in fenders for small and big bumper cars. Modifications can be made for them to work. Grills interchange but vary in appearance and features such as center emblem, sport lamps, turn signal lamps (amber or clear lenses) All 4 door deck lids are shaped differently.
Right or wrong with parts interchange sounds like you have been busy with yuor projects. Welcome aboard!
Thanks for the warm welcome (crushnomav) Appreciate the responses. It will take me a little time to get used to navigating the website, and I hope to post pics very soon.
navigating the site I found some pictures on my computer of my 74 and 77 mavs, and I'm wondering how to post them. How'd you guys post on your profile, and how do you post them on a thread?
This is how I do it: 1) sign up for a free imagehosting acct (i use photobucket, but there are a ton of others) 2) upload them using the browse tool (helps if you drag the pics to the desktop so they are easy to spot) 3) copy and past the IMG code in the message box I'm sure that there are other ways to skin this cat, this is just the one most familiar to me... welcome from a fellow newjack!!!
Pictures? I was able to post an avatar of my daughter's 77 mav, but I'm still in the dark on how to post some more pics. I don't have many right now, and they're a few years old. How do I navigate? Thanks.
