I'm at a new job that I just started and don't have an access anymore to a garage to work on the car. So, with great sadness I'm gonna start farming out the work that I couldn't finish at my place. So here is the estimate I got from a shop that's right next to my job which is very convenient:

Front end full suspension rebuild + disc brake conversion, I supply parts ($500)
Aluminum radiator and taurus fan install, I supply parts ($200)
    Intake and carb replacement ($300)

He said he could have it done in 1 week. Not a lot of other shops out here locally are willing to work on older cars.

$1000?!!! I would do it as a package price, especialy if I had the car for a week. I would do it for $750 you do the alignment...:D

That's kind of high for where I live, but it may not be for Los Angeles. In my neighborhood, auto labor is about $65 - $75 an hour.

Starting to sound like maybe find out what his labor rate is and how many hrs the books call for.

Considering you are not able to do the work, and considering you are in LA.....I think that sounds like fair prices.....but.....look around and see what else is out there.

It may not be that much out of line. My body shop charges $43 per hour at the dealership I work at but the service department charges $79.95 per hour. So, if it took our serv dept 10 hours to do this work it would cost you $799.50 labor and I figure it might take a bit more than 10 hours for everything you quoted. Of course I'm figuring time allowance for running into minor problems too, which always seems to happen on these older cars. Just bolting everything on can be done in less time but there are a lot of testing/tuning/alignment that need to be allowed for. I would still shop around because like Gene mentioned, seems like a package deal might be in order here. Good luck with it.
